<strong>Instruction</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Application</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Coursework</strong> <strong>Students</strong><br />
(<strong>MFE</strong>)<br />
Please read the following guidelines be<strong>for</strong>e you proceed to apply <strong>for</strong> the <strong>MFE</strong> program online.<br />
<strong>Application</strong> Fee<br />
Please send your proof of payment or the payment itself together with your application package.<br />
Please note that an application without the application fee payment or with insufficient application fee<br />
amount will not be processed.<br />
<strong>Application</strong> fee is S$50.00 <strong>for</strong> an online application and S$100.00 <strong>for</strong> a paper application 1<br />

The modes of payment are:<br />
Applicants Based in Singapore<br />
1. Online Payment by any of the methods (For application submitted <strong>for</strong> Semester 1<br />
AY2012/2013 onwards)<br />
i. VISA, Mastercard or AMEX<br />
ii. Debit Card (applicants must have a online banking account with either of the<br />
following banks - POSB/DBS, UOB or Citibank).<br />
OR<br />
2. Complete the relevant <strong>Application</strong> Fee Form and send it together with a cheque (should be<br />
crossed) made payable to "National University of Singapore". Please write your name,<br />
mailing address and programme(s) applied <strong>for</strong> at the reverse side of the cheque; or<br />
i. Complete the relevant <strong>Application</strong> Fee Form and make payment by NETS at<br />
the Student Service Centre (located at Level 1, Yusof Ishak House) during<br />
operating hours.<br />
International Applicants:<br />
1. Online Payment by any of the methods (For application submitted <strong>for</strong> Semester 1<br />
AY2012/2013 onwards)<br />
i. VISA, Mastercard or AMEX<br />
ii. Debit Card (applicants must have a online banking account with either of the<br />
following banks - POSB/DBS, UOB or Citibank).<br />
OR<br />
2. Complete the relevant <strong>Application</strong> Fee Form and send it together with a bank draft (drawn<br />
on a bank in Singapore in Singapore dollars) made payable to "National University of<br />
Singapore". Please write your name, mailing address and programme(s) applied <strong>for</strong> at the<br />
reverse side of the bank draft.<br />

Supporting Documents<br />
Please refer to the checklist of supporting documents required. Please note the following when<br />
completing the online application:<br />
Transcript<br />
An official transcript of academic records is required from each university you have attended. You are<br />
responsible <strong>for</strong> requesting the transcript(s) from the relevant University. Please use the prescribed<br />
<strong>for</strong>m <strong>for</strong> such request.<br />
Transcripts must be sent directly to NUS by your university in an official SEALED envelope with its<br />
flap bearing the security seal of the university and the signature of the Registrar or representative.<br />
Graduates from NUS can submit copies of their result slips or official transcripts of their academic<br />
records.<br />
TOEFL/ IELTS<br />
Applicants whose native tongue AND medium of university instruction is not English should submit<br />
the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing<br />
System (IELTS) as evidence of their proficiency in the English language.<br />
The minimum TOEFL score ranges <strong>for</strong> NUS are as follows:<br />
a. Paper-based (PBT): 580 - 600<br />
b. Computer-based (CBT): 237 - 250<br />
c. Internet-based (iBT): 85<br />
Please quote NUS institution code 9087 and department code is 99.<br />
For IELTS, the score should be six (6) and above. The IELTS code <strong>for</strong> NUS is 0677<br />
Please note that the TOEFL/IELTS scores are valid <strong>for</strong> two (2) years from the test date. If it has been<br />
more than two years since you last took the test, you must take it again to have the scores reported.<br />
Applicants to <strong>MFE</strong> program should submit either GRE or GMAT score<br />
GRE<br />
Minimum NUS requirement <strong>for</strong> the GRE General Test<br />
• Total (Verbal Reasoning + Quantitative Reasoning): 320<br />
• Analytical Writing: 3.5<br />
For GRE, please quote our University’s code (0677) and the specific the department code 4312.<br />
Please note that the GRE scores are valid <strong>for</strong> five (5) years from the test date.<br />
GMAT<br />
NUS minimum requirement <strong>for</strong> the GMAT is 640.<br />
For those who take the GMAT in Singapore, please select National University of Singapore - MS in<br />
Financial Engineering.<br />
Please note that the GMAT scores are valid <strong>for</strong> five (5) years from the test date.<br />

Referee Reports<br />
Recommendations from 2 referees are to be submitted via the online admission system. You should<br />
check with your referees and obtain their institutional e-mail address. Fill in the Referees’ particulars<br />
correctly. E-mail addresses from domains other than ".edu" may be subject to additional screening<br />
and filtering. Once your online application is submitted, an automated e-mail will be sent to your<br />
referees.<br />
In the event that the Referee does not receive the above mentioned email, download a copy of the<br />
Referee Report from “Forms <strong>for</strong> Applicant to Download” <strong>for</strong> the Referee to complete. He/She is to<br />
send the completed report to rmilhc@nus.edu.sg indicating your application number in the “Subject”<br />
line. Alternatively, they can print the PDF copy to fill in and send it back to us. The report should be<br />
sealed and signed across the seal on the envelope flap.<br />
Documentation Proof of Financial Support<br />
International applicants must submit documentary evidence of their ability to support their study (e.g.<br />
a bank statement) indicating the availability of funding of at least S$18,000 or its equivalent.<br />
Applicants who are sponsored by an individual or organization will need to submit a letter from the<br />
sponsor with details/documentary proof of the sponsorship.<br />
Those who are working in Singapore and applying <strong>for</strong> admission to our part-time programme may<br />
submit a copy of their recent pay slip.<br />
All supporting documents which are not in English must be accompanied by an<br />
official certified English translation.<br />
Supporting documents submitted are not returnable. Enclosures via e-mails will<br />
not be opened and will be deleted.<br />
Submission of <strong>Application</strong><br />
After submitting the Online <strong>Application</strong>, all applicants should mail the completed application <strong>for</strong>m<br />
(together with the application fee payment/ receipt and supporting documents) directly to:<br />

If you are concerned about the delivery of your documents, you may wish to consider sending them<br />

*Important Note: It is important that you in<strong>for</strong>m mfe@nus.edu.sg if there are any<br />
changes/updates to your application after your submission.<br />
Correspondence from the University<br />
<strong>MFE</strong> Admin team will correspond with you primarily using e-mail and the online status enquiry<br />
during application process to convey messages such as requesting <strong>for</strong> outstanding documents,<br />
interview notification (if required) etc.<br />

Hence it is very important that you provide a valid and correct e-mail address and maintain your email<br />
account regularly. The University will not be responsible <strong>for</strong> undeliverable e-mails and their<br />
consequences.<br />
<strong>Application</strong> closing Dates and Outcome<br />
Applicants can submit the application by the deadlines <strong>for</strong> all modes of studies: full-time, part-time or<br />
via distance learning program as follows:<br />

<strong>Application</strong> closing date 14 December 2012 15 March 2013<br />
* Applicants who intend to apply <strong>for</strong> Finance Scholarship Program (Individual) by the Monetary<br />
Authority of Singapore should apply by the early decision deadline.<br />
<strong>Application</strong>s (completed) received after application deadline will generally be considered <strong>for</strong> the next<br />
intake.<br />
Only completed application with ALL required documents received will be processed. <strong>Application</strong><br />
status will be updated online as and when the physical documents have been verified. You can check<br />
your status via the online admission system and will also be in<strong>for</strong>med officially of the outcome of<br />
your application in due course.<br />
Due to the number of applicants, we are sorry we will not be able to attend to individual enquiries by<br />
email or phone. If you are concerned about the delivery of your documents, you may wish to consider<br />
sending them via registered mail or courier.<br />
Admission Results<br />
Early Decision applicants will be in<strong>for</strong>med of their respective Admission Status during February. All<br />
applicants will be in<strong>for</strong>med of their Admission results by mid-June.<br />
Rejection of <strong>Application</strong><br />
Inaccurate or false in<strong>for</strong>mation or omission of material in<strong>for</strong>mation or no application fee payment will<br />
render your application invalid. The University reserves the right to reject applications that are<br />
incomplete or inaccurate. Persons admitted on the basis of inaccurate or false in<strong>for</strong>mation may be<br />
expelled.<br />
The University has not engaged any external agencies to undertake graduate student recruitment on<br />
its behalf and it reserves the right to reject without giving reasons applications submitted through any<br />
external agencies.<br />
