Francesco Cavagna’s altar piece showing “The Immaculate<br />

Conception and Saints” and the splendid<br />

altars in polychrome marble and stones by<br />

Andrea and Gian Giacomo Manni (XVIIIth century).<br />

Along the road honouring the Briolinis, and along<br />

via Mazzini, there are ancient, courtly buildings<br />

with loggias and lovely historical façades with ar-<br />

ches and fifteenth century colonades. From the<br />

area in front of the Station, which is located near<br />

the old cemetery, one can see the elegant neogothic<br />

façade of the Briolini mausoleum, begun in<br />

1897 following Decio’s wishes and characterised<br />

by the alternating luminosity of Carrara marble<br />

and the sombre blackness of local marble. The<br />

town is also boasts the “Geological Garden of the<br />

Seriana Valley”; a simple and clear way to learn<br />

about the geological origins of the territory.<br />

on the façade and those inside date from the<br />

early 1900’s. The magnificent Polyptych of<br />

Saint George, positioned on the high altar, was<br />

painted by Giovan Battista Moroni around 1575.<br />

Territorially it is the smallest municipality of<br />

the province although it has a densely populated<br />

area, one of the highest in Italy. The Parish<br />

church of San Giorgio is located at the centre.<br />
