Research in Progress
"Developing a new method of cognitive lie detection using the eyes" (On-Going)
In accordance with the NSF grant I received in March of 2007, I am in the middle of
conducting 5 studies using eye tracking technology and response timing to develop new cues
to deception. These true experiments involve testing college students who receive
instructions to lie or tell the truth to the questions asked. Mock crimes and memories for

crimes conveyed in videos are called for in some studies. Results may help enhance national
security by leading to the development of a new method of lie detection.
"Innovations in Lie Detection" (Writing Results)
Paper submitted for presentation at the International Personnel Assessment Council Annual
Conference 2010. Paper examines past and current methods of lie detection available for
personnel screening and present data supporting the use of new cognitive-based methods of
lie detection.
"Numeracy, The DOSPERT and Decision-Framing." (On-Going)
Examines individual difference variables and their relationship to participant responses in
risky-choice framing and message framing conditions.
"Sleep Quality and Length: Relationship to Visual Attention" (On-Going)
"The New Business Lying: Consideration of Various Approaches to Lie Detection in Law
Enforcement and Security Personnel Selection" (Writing Results)
Article to be submitted to the Journal of Public Personnel Management. Article discusses
limitation of current methods of lie detection and advocates a new method based on cognitive
load. Article is in final draft form.
