1. SHIKSHAPATRI<br />

GENERAL PRECEPTS, SECTION 2<br />

In <strong>Kishore</strong> <strong>Satsang</strong> Pravesh, we studied some of the general<br />

precepts in the Shikshapatri. Here we will study those precepts<br />

of spirituality, ethics of association and ethics of conduct which a<br />

spiritual seeker needs for his spiritual enlightenment.<br />

SPIRITUAL DISCRIMINATION<br />

One should not slander or vilify gods, places of pilgrimage,<br />

Brahmins, chaste women, sadhus and Vedas nor listen to such<br />

talks. Evil-minded and fallen people vilify holy places, murtis and<br />

scriptures and as a result they and their lineage are destroyed.<br />

Know such people as sinners. All contact with atheists and the<br />

fallen should be avoided. Shriji Maharaj has commanded this<br />

even in the Vachanamrut Gadhada II-6.<br />

Therefore, never slander or vilify even jokingly. And if some<br />

ill-mannered people are indulging in it, one should not listen to<br />

them. Understand that the word Veda includes the Vachanamrut,<br />

Shikshapatri, Swamini Vato and other scriptures of the Sampraday.<br />

So, never criticize nor listen to criticism of these scriptures. By<br />

forbidding people from slandering chaste women, Shriji Maharaj<br />

has emphasized the value of fidelity in women and thus provided<br />

them great protection.<br />

If one passes by a mandir of Shiva and other deities, one should<br />

bow down with due reverence, love and folded hands. If one goes<br />

for darshan without reverence, one commits offence against the<br />

deity (21, 22).<br />

Shriji Maharaj also writes, “My devotees should hold in great<br />

reverence the five deities: Vishnu, Shiva, Ganapati, Parvati and<br />

Surya” (84).<br />

One should never believe those scriptures which falsely preach
