Vox Pox<br />

Emma Parkes explained the background of the vox pox. Two questions that<br />

as asked when the service users/carers entered the big brother booth<br />

Tell us something we do well as a Trust<br />

What can we improve on<br />

The DVD was played for the group<br />

The DVD as been shown to the Trust management team and will be shown at<br />

the next Trust board meeting. This will also be used in staff training and in the<br />

induction. Also the group was informed that if there was any issues or<br />

compliments for any of our partners the Trust will pass these on.<br />

Care Programme Approach (CPA)<br />

Peter Dowd gave the group the group the background on CPA and what it<br />

means for the service users and their carers.<br />

The CPA was reviewed at a national level in 2006 to bring it up to date with<br />

the changes in the Mental Health Act and the White Paper.<br />

Some carer expressed concerns their concerns about the care plans on how<br />

they are produced without involving the service user or carer also not having<br />

full representation in a CPA review from CPN’s or social workers.<br />

The service user, carer and other partner such as collages, housing etc if<br />

required should be involved in the care plan and review.<br />

Peter informed the group if they had personal issues about their care plan or<br />

the person they care for make a complaint.<br />

A service user and carer leaflet about the CPA was distributed.<br />

Take it to the Top<br />

Speed debating with the group, Simon Barber and John Kelly took place the<br />

following topics where discussed:-<br />

Care Programme Approach including meetings not being multi disciplinary<br />

117 discharge meetings not happening<br />

<strong>Service</strong>s users being discharged when they are still acutely ill<br />

Access to crisis teams<br />

Access to outside area Weaver ward<br />

Computer use for service users<br />

Simon informed the group that Bernard Pilkington asked at the Trust board on<br />

Thursday why service users and cares do not understand their care plan and<br />

why are they not working. This has taken on as a high priority for John Kelly<br />

and he will feedback to the board why, what and when will improvements be<br />

happening.<br />

Action: John Kelly agreed to meet separately with Lady Sherwood and Janet<br />

Burtonwood to discuss personal issues. John will attend the next mental<br />

health cares group meeting (10 th July 1pm) in Wigan and invite colleagues<br />

social services. Bernie to pass contact details on to John Kelly’s secretary.<br />

John Kelly will take the issues of access to the crisis team back to team<br />

mangers.<br />

Dave Thompson will bring an update for the computer use for service users to<br />

the next meeting.<br />

Involvement Activities Update<br />

Privacy & Dignity Project<br />

The aim of this project is to produce bespoke information for service users<br />

and carers regarding privacy and dignity around mixed sex services with<br />

single sex accommodation. The information will be available and distributed<br />

across the Trust and to our partners by the end of the first week in July 2009.<br />

The group was given copies of the attached report. Bernie invited service<br />

users and carers to join the recent involvement opportunity of interview<br />

panels. Full training and support will be provided.<br />

Patients Experience Survey<br />

Dave gave the group an overview of the results Trust wide for the patients<br />

experience survey. Trends have been highlighted around care plans, time<br />

spent by staff with service users and difficulties in gaining meaningful<br />

involvement with the survey with learning disability and older service users.<br />

Irene Harris as agreed to sit on this committee as a service user<br />

representative.<br />

Development Worker<br />

Roman informed the group that a new development worker was in post for St<br />

Helens and Halton.<br />

Mind full employer<br />

Dave informed the group that the Trust has signed up to the Mind full<br />

employer. Vince thanked Duncan Barber for all his hard work.<br />

Disability Awareness Day (DAD)<br />

Disability awareness week starts week commencing 6 th July at Walton<br />

Gardens there will lots of activities going on everybody is welcome.<br />

Dave thanked the group for attending and participating in the meeting.<br />
