Emma Parkes explained the background of the vox pox. Two questions that
as asked when the service users/carers entered the big brother booth
Tell us something we do well as a Trust
What can we improve on
The DVD was played for the group
The DVD as been shown to the Trust management team and will be shown at
the next Trust board meeting. This will also be used in staff training and in the
induction. Also the group was informed that if there was any issues or
compliments for any of our partners the Trust will pass these on.
Care Programme Approach (CPA)
Peter Dowd gave the group the group the background on CPA and what it
means for the service users and their carers.
The CPA was reviewed at a national level in 2006 to bring it up to date with
the changes in the Mental Health Act and the White Paper.
Some carer expressed concerns their concerns about the care plans on how
they are produced without involving the service user or carer also not having
full representation in a CPA review from CPN’s or social workers.

The service user, carer and other partner such as collages, housing etc if
required should be involved in the care plan and review.
Peter informed the group if they had personal issues about their care plan or
the person they care for make a complaint.
A service user and carer leaflet about the CPA was distributed.

Take it to the Top
Speed debating with the group, Simon Barber and John Kelly took place the
following topics where discussed:-
Care Programme Approach including meetings not being multi disciplinary
117 discharge meetings not happening
Services users being discharged when they are still acutely ill
Access to crisis teams
Access to outside area Weaver ward
Computer use for service users
Simon informed the group that Bernard Pilkington asked at the Trust board on
Thursday why service users and cares do not understand their care plan and
why are they not working. This has taken on as a high priority for John Kelly
and he will feedback to the board why, what and when will improvements be
happening.
Action: John Kelly agreed to meet separately with Lady Sherwood and Janet
Burtonwood to discuss personal issues. John will attend the next mental
health cares group meeting (10 th July 1pm) in Wigan and invite colleagues
social services. Bernie to pass contact details on to John Kelly’s secretary.
John Kelly will take the issues of access to the crisis team back to team
mangers.
Dave Thompson will bring an update for the computer use for service users to
the next meeting.
Involvement Activities Update
Privacy & Dignity Project
The aim of this project is to produce bespoke information for service users
and carers regarding privacy and dignity around mixed sex services with
single sex accommodation. The information will be available and distributed
across the Trust and to our partners by the end of the first week in July 2009.

The group was given copies of the attached report. Bernie invited service
users and carers to join the recent involvement opportunity of interview
panels. Full training and support will be provided.

Patients Experience Survey
Dave gave the group an overview of the results Trust wide for the patients
experience survey. Trends have been highlighted around care plans, time
spent by staff with service users and difficulties in gaining meaningful
involvement with the survey with learning disability and older service users.

Irene Harris as agreed to sit on this committee as a service user
representative.
Development Worker
Roman informed the group that a new development worker was in post for St
Helens and Halton.
Mind full employer
Dave informed the group that the Trust has signed up to the Mind full
employer. Vince thanked Duncan Barber for all his hard work.
Disability Awareness Day (DAD)
Disability awareness week starts week commencing 6 th July at Walton
Gardens there will lots of activities going on everybody is welcome.
Dave thanked the group for attending and participating in the meeting.
