In an to effort increase the number of candidates from under-represented groups who pursue careers in Student Affairs, the Division sponsored NASPA attendance for three undergraduate students and co-sponsored a Student Affairs Career Workshop OGLESBY UNION B i l l C l u t t e r , D i r e c t o r The mission of the Oglesby Union is to foster community among students, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests by being a student-centered organization that through volunteers, boards, committees, and student employment offers experiences in citizenship and educates students in leadership and social and ethical responsibility. • • • • Launched the Virtual Event Management System (VEMS) allowing guests to request space online for the Oglesby Union, Askew Student Life Center and Student Services Building; processed more than 9,000 space reservations and served over 600,000 guests through Guest Services Participated in over 1,000 hours of professional development training through departmental, divisional and/or campus-wide training programs Increased Flying High Circus participation to 160 members and began preparation for the 60th anniversary celebration Successfully implemented and assessed Homecoming 2006 in conjunction with Student Government Association • • • • Served approximately 80,000 patrons at the Askew Student Life Cinema through 263 programs Hosted 143,674 bowling games and 7,539 hours of billiards at Crenshaw Lanes Attracted over 400 participants to the Art Center through the new Paint-a-Pot program Provided programming to more than 18,700 participants at Club Downunder programs and over 12,000 participants at major concert events D S A A N N U A L R E P O R T 2 0 0 6 10
UNIVERSITY-WIDE COLLABORATIONS Co-sponsored a program on Institutionalized Racism with Lambda Theta Phi Fraternity, Inc. This program, under the leadership of the Office of Multicultural Affairs, included a faculty/staff panel which contributed to the collaboration between academic and student affairs Collaborated with Academic Affairs to hold the Student Convocation Ceremony; the ceremony was attended by more than 6,000 students and family members Continued implementing the mandatory student health insurance for FSU students which is scheduled to go into effect fall 2007 Expanded the Spiritual Development Discussion group for interested DSA staff, graduate students, as well as, faculty and undergraduate students D S A A N N U A L R E P O R T 2 0 0 6 11 STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION J o y c e H o w a r d , D i r e c t o r The mission of the Student Government Association is to provide FSU students with representation, services, and advocacy within the University structure. Student Government Association provides quality leadership for and accountability to its constituency by recognizing that strength arises from diversity, engagement, and dialogue. • • • Implemented the Night Nole, a no-fare evening transit system which provides a safe ride home to students who live near campus Funded conference and presentation grants for graduate students through the Congress of Graduate Students (COGS) Provided funding for services, including SAFE, child care, Homecoming, PowWow, off-campus housing office, Student Legal Services, 24-hour student-run radio station (WVFS-V-89), 24/7 residence hall movie channel, First Responders Unit, Environmental Service Program, and the FSU Service Corps • • • Allocated a total of $8,670,000 in student activities fees to the Oglesby Union, Campus Recreation, as well as student activities and organizations Assisted in providing diverse programming to help students adjust to the University environment including using activity and service fees for the following events: Native American Heritage Month, Asian Heritage Month, Black History Month, Hispanic Heritage Month, Gay Pride Week, Jewish Heritage Month, Women’s History Month, Stop Rape Week, Human Rights Festival, Sexual Violence Awareness Month, and Middle Eastern cultural programs Allocated $199,721 in end-of-the-year sweepings monies and $149,203 in unbudgeted fee revenue to the Oglesby Union, Campus Recreation, as well as student activities and organizations
