FIEFA - Providing a Framework to Improve the Assessment of the Main
Demersal and Pelagic Fisheries in Western European Waters
EU Study Contract 97-0059
The main objectives of this project are to implement a well designed and
integrated international sampling, data management and data analysis scheme
for the most important commercially exploited stocks in ICES Sub-areas VI, VII,
VIII, IX and X, with a view to improving the quality of data available for stock
assessment and management. The proposal will build on the progress achieved
in EU Study Contract 94-0013 (Improvements of data collection for stock
assessment in ICES Sub-areas VI, VII, VIII, IX and X). The project will enable the
partners and the EU, plan for the next phase of the CFP in 2002 by improving the
fisheries database in the member countries so that, the quality of data, the ability
to exchange data and the ability to consider fisheries rather than individual stocks
will be enhanced.
BASBLACK - Environment and biology of deep-water species Aphanopus carbo
in the NE Atlantic: basis for its management.
EC DG-XIV Study Project 97/0084
The objective of this project will be to provide the basis for the development
and implementation of a programme for the routine study and management of
the black scabbardfish. Owing to the lack of biological and environmental
information critical for the assessment and management of the species a special
effort will be put into investigations of its biology, stock discrimination and habitat
characterization.
MARÉ - Integrated Management of Coastal and Marine Areas in the Azores
EU – LIFE DG XI/ B4-3200-98-509.
The Azores archipelago consists of 9 islands and 20 islets located on the Mid-
Atlantic Ridge. Despite this geographical isolation, the marine environment has
