GESTRA Information on ATEX Directive 94/9/EC<br />

Equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive<br />

atmospheres “ATEX” Directive 94/9/EC is a so-called “New Approach”<br />

Directive which provides the technical requirements to be applied to<br />

equipment intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres .<br />

The Directive has been mandatory in all member states of the EU from<br />

1 st July 2003 .<br />

Steam traps:<br />

Type AK, BK, DK, MK, SMK, TK, UBK, UC (Universal Connector),<br />

UNA, VK .<br />

Non-return & check valves:<br />

Type BB, CB, MB, RK, SBO .<br />

Self-acting controller:<br />

Type BW, CW .<br />

Strainer:<br />

Type SZ .<br />

The equipment listed above has been examined regarding its suitability for<br />

application in potentially explosive atmospheres as defined by Directive<br />

94/9/EC .<br />

Based on Annex II, section 1 .3 the equipment does not have its own<br />

source of ignition and is therefore excluded from the scope of this<br />

Directive according to Art . 1, Paragraph (3)a) . In compliance with Art . 10,<br />

Paragraph 3 the equipment is not entitled to bear the CE marking in<br />

connection with Directive 94/9/EC . Consequently a declaration of conformity<br />

in accordance with 94/9/EC must not be issued .<br />

When using the equipment according to its intended purpose as<br />

specified in the corresponding data sheets and installation instructions<br />

issued by GESTRA the application of the above-mentioned<br />

equipment in potentially explosive atmospheres is not limited since<br />

the equipment does not have its own source of ignition.<br />

The equipment listed above is suitable for application in the following<br />

areas:<br />

Zone 0, 1, 2 (gases) and 20, 21, 22 (dusts)<br />

Equipment group II<br />

Category 1, 2, 3<br />

Note:<br />

Some of the electrical and non-electrical devices not listed here can be<br />

used in potentially explosive atmospheres .<br />

Please note that some GESTRA devices – in accordance with the Pressure<br />

Equipment Directive (PED) and ATEX – bear the CE marking and have a<br />

data sheets and installation instructions .<br />
