GESTRA Information on ATEX Directive 94/9/EC
Equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive
atmospheres “ATEX” Directive 94/9/EC is a so-called “New Approach”
Directive which provides the technical requirements to be applied to
equipment intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres .
The Directive has been mandatory in all member states of the EU from
1 st July 2003 .
Steam traps:
Type AK, BK, DK, MK, SMK, TK, UBK, UC (Universal Connector),
UNA, VK .
Non-return & check valves:
Type BB, CB, MB, RK, SBO .
Self-acting controller:
Type BW, CW .
Strainer:
Type SZ .
The equipment listed above has been examined regarding its suitability for
application in potentially explosive atmospheres as defined by Directive
94/9/EC .
Based on Annex II, section 1 .3 the equipment does not have its own
source of ignition and is therefore excluded from the scope of this
Directive according to Art . 1, Paragraph (3)a) . In compliance with Art . 10,
Paragraph 3 the equipment is not entitled to bear the CE marking in
connection with Directive 94/9/EC . Consequently a declaration of conformity
in accordance with 94/9/EC must not be issued .
When using the equipment according to its intended purpose as
specified in the corresponding data sheets and installation instructions
issued by GESTRA the application of the above-mentioned
equipment in potentially explosive atmospheres is not limited since
the equipment does not have its own source of ignition.
The equipment listed above is suitable for application in the following
areas:
Zone 0, 1, 2 (gases) and 20, 21, 22 (dusts)
Equipment group II
Category 1, 2, 3
Note:
Some of the electrical and non-electrical devices not listed here can be
used in potentially explosive atmospheres .
