• March 31 — Abby rounds Cape Horn. Whether inspired by the<br />
desire for fame and fortune, the belief in God, or just raw determination,<br />
there is no denying that Abby Sunderland has courage.<br />
• May 5 — Citing problems with autopilots, Abby pulls into Cape<br />
Town, thereby ending her chances of doing a nonstop solo circumnavigation<br />
and being the youngest person to sail around the world.<br />
• May 21 — With her shot at the record gone, Abby nonetheless leaves<br />
Cape Town after repairs are completed — even though it means she’ll<br />
be sailing across the Southern Ocean in winter, something even the<br />
