I. Instrument upon the Declaration of the Breve<br />

of Lewis anent the birth of Torquil said to be<br />

son to M'Leod of Lewis, dated August 22, 1566. 1<br />

In Dei Nomine Amen—Per hoc presens publicum<br />

Instrumentum cunctis pateat evidenter et sit notum quod<br />

anno incarnationis Domini millesimo quingentesimo sexagesimo<br />

sexto die vero mensis Augusti vigesimo secundo<br />

anno regni supreme Domine nostre Regine vigesimo quinto<br />

In mei Notarii publici et Testium subscriptorum presentia<br />

The Quhilk day S r Patrik M'Maister Mairtin 2 Persoun<br />

of Barwas deponit upon his aithe and [ ] that he<br />

being in Lewiss visiting Hucheoun Breue of Lewess<br />

that wes then in the poynt of dethe and in thay dayes wes<br />

confessour to the said Hucheoun attending to the consuetude<br />

vsit in yai tymes. That he sperit and requirit of the<br />

said Hucheoun anent yis sone Torquill borne be Mak-<br />

kenze's sister, 3 as wes allegit, to Maccleod of Lewess hir<br />

housband Quhat ye said Huchoun's Jugement wes anent<br />

him and to quhome the said Torquill, as he belefit, pertenit.<br />
