Board members are recruited with reference to criteria including their skills,<br />
experience, ability to contribute time, willingness to provide financial support and<br />
resources, respect for traditions, and diversity reflective of our community, to best<br />
support the goals and vision of the school.<br />
Interested members of the community who wish to be considered as Board<br />
candidates are encouraged to complete the “Confidential Board Profile” available<br />
on our website’s private parent portal – ‘My SMLS’ – and submit by email to<br />
Barbara Smallhorn at bsmallhorn@smls.on.ca for consideration by the Board’s<br />

Management Team<br />
Head of <strong>School</strong><br />
Mrs. Dorothy Byers is responsible for the overall leadership, vision and<br />
direction of the school. She consults with and works closely with the Board of<br />
Governors, Senior Management team, faculty, parents, alumnae and the<br />
student body. She is an ex-officio member of all Board committees and<br />
represents the school at CA + IS, CIS and NAIS events.<br />
Head of Junior <strong>School</strong><br />
Ms. Irene McRae is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Junior<br />
<strong>School</strong>. This involves overseeing curriculum, student discipline and guidance,<br />
teacher evaluation, staff professional development, and co-curricular programs.<br />
Head of Senior <strong>School</strong><br />
Mrs. Karen Hansen-Cowper is responsible for the day-to-day operation of<br />
the Senior <strong>School</strong>. This involves overseeing curriculum, student discipline<br />
and guidance, teacher evaluation, staff professional development, and<br />
co-curricular programs. She also coordinates the Advanced Placement (AP)<br />
program and SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) preparation.<br />
Dean of Academic Administration<br />
Mrs. Janet Worboys is responsible for the scheduling and organization of<br />
school activities, as well as the documentation and record-keeping of<br />
academic administration. She also performs guidance counselling and assists<br />
with university applications for the Senior <strong>School</strong>, and is the liaison to the<br />
Parent Association.<br />
