occasion, access, read, copy, reproduce, print, retain, move, store, destroy and/or<br />

disclose information, including files, messages, documents, stored in or sent over<br />

the System. These situations may include, but are not limited to: (i) in the course<br />

of regular maintenance of the services; (ii) in the event of a request for documents<br />

as part of legal proceedings; and (iii) where SMLS has reason to believe that the<br />

System is being used in violation of this Policy or otherwise contrary to the SMLS<br />

Family Code of Conduct.<br />

Personal Safety<br />

• Never send information about yourself or others that would or could be<br />

considered inappropriate.<br />

• Keep in mind that any email you have sent is now beyond your control. It<br />

can be copied and re-sent to anyone, so consider what you are sending.<br />

• Keep information about your personal identity (such as your name, address,<br />

phone number, age, physical description or school) hidden from strangers<br />

you may encounter online.<br />

• Hide personal information in a public online forum where you may not know<br />

everyone who might see the information.<br />

• Never reveal personal information online about someone else, unless you<br />

have their prior permission and you know the information will not be used<br />

for harmful purposes.<br />

• Keep your access password or that of anyone else private.<br />

• Never send or post a picture of yourself, another person or a group, over an<br />

electronic network without prior informed permission of all the individuals<br />

involved and, in the case of minors (under 18 years of age), their<br />

parent/guardian(s).<br />

• Report immediately to a teacher any message or request you receive that<br />

bothers you or that suggests personal contact with you.<br />

• Never publish the specific dates, times and locations of field trips to people<br />

who are not directly entitled to such information, or to public forums where<br />

unknown persons might access the information.<br />

• A password policy will enforce mandatory password changes every three<br />

months.<br />

Laptop <strong>St</strong>orage<br />

While in the school, the laptop shall remain:<br />

• In a locked locker<br />

• In a locked classroom<br />

• In the possession of the User to which it is assigned<br />
