The fall text of the Dawson News for the full life of the newspaper is published
here as a genealogical resource for anyone interested in the people or history of
this abandoned coal-mining town in Colfax County, New Mexico.
This once dynamic, thriving community was active from 1900 to 1950 and at it’s
peak, around 1920, supported a population of more than 6000. It was located 35
miles southwest of Raton, New Mexico in the Verrnejo River valley 5 miles north
of us Highway 64.
