THE DAWSON NEWS<br />

The fall text of the Dawson News for the full life of the newspaper is published<br />

<strong>here</strong> as a genealogical resource for anyone interested in the people or history of<br />

this abandoned coal-mining town in Colfax County, New Mexico.<br />

This once dynamic, thriving community was active from 1900 to 1950 and at it’s<br />

peak, around 1920, supported a population of more than 6000. It was located 35<br />

miles southwest of Raton, New Mexico in the Verrnejo River valley 5 miles north<br />

of us Highway 64.<br />
