Johnston-Turner alzheimer's walk/run In 2006, the Walk/Run to Remember moved to a new location on the LSU Campus. Over 5,000 people came out in November to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s Services. Mr. Paul J. Jumonville Mr. Nolan J. Keller Mr. Edward Kelley Ms. Mabel Kelly Mr. Tommie Kelly Mr. Audrey Nolan Kennedy Mrs. Virginia Marilyn Kennedy Ms. Maude O'Rourke Kenny Ms. Dorothy Kolbeck Mr. Emile Paul Lalande, Jr. Striving For Excellence Alzheimer’s Services of the Capital Area successfully completed the Louisiana Standards for Excellence Voluntary Certification Program and was awarded the LANO Seal of Excellence on October 25, 2006. Only 46 of the thousands of registered nonprofits in the state of Louisiana have obtained certification. The Standards for Excellence Program aims to promote the public’s trust in nonprofit organizations. It sets benchmarks beyond the minimum legal requirements of how nonprofits should operate encompassing eight areas of nonprofit operations: mission and program, governing board, conflicts of interest, human resources, financial and legal accountability, openness and disclosure, fundraising and public policy and affairs. Alzheimer’s Services underwent an intensive peer review process, an extensive review of operations and approval by an independent Standards Compliance Committee. According to Executive Director Beth Veazey, “The LANO Standards for Excellence Program gave us the tools we needed to evaluate current operations and set stringent guidelines to ensure responsible and effective management of Alzheimer’s Services now and in the future.” Page 9
