Citoyen Borden Citizen
Bus service from CFB Borden, Angus and Barrie is just
around the corner. Essa Township Mayor, Terry
Dowdall, along with the City of Barrie Mayor, Jeff
Lehman signed an agreement on Wednesday, May 22. This agreement
will see a bus service, Route 90, run from the Barrie Transit
Terminal, along County Road 90 to parts of Angus before stopping
at CFB Borden. Stops and exact times are still to be determined.

the area.

system.”

La BFC Borden, Angus et Barrie seront bientôt
desservies par le transport en commun. En effet, le 22
mai dernier, Terry Dowdall, maire du comté d’Essa,
ainsi que Jeff Lehman, maire de Barrie, ont signé une entente qui
prévoit l’établissement du trajet d’autobus 90 : du terminus de
Barrie, les autobus emprunteront la route de comté 90 vers différents
quartiers d’Angus, avant de se rendre à la BFC Borden.
Les arrêts et l’horaire exact restent encore à déterminer.
Le maire d’Essa est persuadé qu’il s’agit d’une mesure positive
pour la région.
« Pour le Conseil, c’est assurément le début d’une série de
mesures et de démarches positives qui permettront d’améliorer
notre collectivité », a-t-il affirmé. « Nous souhaitons remercier la
Base de Borden et la Ville de Barrie de leur soutien. Nous avons
hâte que le service de transport en commun intégré soit mis en
place. »

Get Behind the Blood Signal
Local residents asked to go social and rally
together this National Blood Donor Week
June 2013 - Canadian Blood Services is asking Canadians to get Behind the Blood
Signal when the blood drop shaped icon is activated during National Blood Donor Week,
June 10 to 16.
The Blood Signal is intended to connect people to the idea of making a donation at specific
times of the year when the need for blood is greatest—like summer. Behind the Blood
Signal was chosen as this year’s theme for National Blood Donor Week to educate more
Canadians that when they see the Blood Signal, it means ‘give blood now.’ The Blood
Signal is intended to connect people to the idea of giving blood, rallying people in their
communities to come together and save lives.
Throughout National Blood Donor Week, we’re also asking Canadians to “go social”
in supporting the Blood Signal by:
• Visiting Mosaic Me at http://www.mosaicme.ca/. Individuals can post pictures of themselves
donating, promoting or otherwise supporting patients through blood donation that
will form in the shape of the Blood Signal.

Discover Scuba at CFB Borden Scuba Diving Club:
The Aquateers
If you have ever wanted to learn about the great sport of scuba diving, The Aquateers, CFB Borden's Scuba
Diving Club, is giving you the opportunity to take this fantastic hobby for a test drive.
On Sunday, June 2nd, the Aquateers will be offering a Discover Scuba night from 1930hrs to 2100hrs. The
cost is $20 and all equipment will be provided. All you need to bring is your bathing suit, a towel and
sense of adventure.
This introduction will give you an overview of the equipment used for this sport and teach you some basic
underwater skills. Under the supervision of a qualified instructor you will then spend some time discovering
the 4th dimension in the Buell Rec Centre pool.
Please be aware, this introduction will not certify you as a Recreational Diver. You must take Open Water
Certification Course for that certification.

Si vous avez déjà voulu en savoir plus sur le sport extraordinaire qu’est la plongée autonome, le club de
plongée autonome Les Aquateers de la BFC Borden vous offre la possibilité d’en faire l’essai.
Le dimanche 2 juin, de 19 h 30 à 21 h, le club offrira une séance « Découvrez la plongée autonome ». Les
frais de participation sont de 20 $ par personne. Tout l’équipement est fourni; vous n’avez qu’à apporter
votre maillot de bain, une serviette et votre goût de l’aventure!
Il s’agit d’une séance de familiarisation avec l’équipement utilisé pour pratiquer la plongée autonome et
avec des techniques élémentaires de plongée sous-marine. Sous la supervision d’un moniteur qualifié, vous
pourrez découvrir la quatrième dimension dans la piscine du Complexe sportif Buell.

competitive swimming? Base Borden Barracudas
Swim Club (BBBSC) offers flexibility in competitive
swimming with a wide range of training levels to
meet each swimmers personal goal.
BBBSC has been promoting excellence in the
sport of competitive swimming for years. The club’s
goal is to prepare young athletes for competitive
swimming through a program that concentrates on
individual and team excellences. As a result, our
swimmers have proudly represented us at local,
regional and provincial competitions.
Not every swimmer becomes a world record holder,
but everyone will benefit from the exercise, cooperation,
sportsmanship, self-discipline, and time
management skills learned through organized sports.

Children’s Trout Fishing Derby
On Saturday June 1, 2013 the Base Borden Rod and Gun Club will
again be hosting the Children’s Trout Fishing Derby at the
Catawampus Pond.
This derby is open to the children of all base personnel as well as
members of the Base Borden Rod and Gun Club.
Start time of the derby will be at 08:00 hrs with registration by age
category (name and phone number) for each contestant taking place at
the Sugar Shack, commencing at 08:00 hrs. There will be volunteers
walking around the pond and they will weigh the Rainbow, Brown or
Speckled Trout caught by the children and record the weight on the registration
sheet.
Fishing will run until 11:30 hrs and prizes will be awarded at 12:00
hrs at the Sugar Shack. There will be three prizes awarded in each of
the age categories, namely up to 6 years, 7 to 11 years, and 12 to 18
years of age for those fisherpersons catching the largest Rainbow,
Brown or Speckled Trout. Please note that only the weights of the
Rainbow, Brown or Speckled Trout are eligible to be recorded in determining
the allocation of prizes.
The Club will be providing complimentary beverages and a choice
of either a hot dog or hamburger to all contestants and their parents.
While the children do not require a fishing license, they must follow
the Province of Ontario fishing regulations which state that a maximum
of two Trout only are to be in their possession. An idea would be to
have the children use barbless hooks so that the smaller catch can safely
be returned to the pond, thereby keeping only that record breaking
Trout. The pond will be stocked with lots of Rainbow, Brown and
Speckled trout, so come out with your fishing lines and worms, no live
bait to be used, to hopefully catch some fish and have a lot of fun.

As a final note, the pond will be closed to all fishing from the date
of stocking until the day of the Children’s Trout Fishing Derby and we
would ask all Sportspeople to refrain from fishing the pond until after
the derby. Thank you for your cooperation.
Tournoi de pêche à la truite des enfants
Le Club de chasse et pêche de Borden organise encore une fois le
tournoi de pêche à la truite des enfants. L'activité aura lieu le samedi
1er juin 2013 à l'étang Catawampus.
Le tournoi est ouvert aux enfants de tout le personnel de la Base
ainsi qu’à ceux des membres du Club de chasse et pêche de Borden.
Les participants pourront s’inscrire par catégorie d’âge (nom et
numéro de téléphone) dès 8 heures à la cabane à sucre, après quoi le
tournoi débutera. Des bénévoles seront aux abords de l'étang; ils
pèseront les truites arc-en-ciel, brunes et mouchetées pêchées par les
enfants et inscriront le poids sur la fiche d'inscription.
La pêche se terminera à 11 h 30, et les prix seront remis à 12 h à la
cabane à sucre. Dans chaque catégorie (6 ans et moins, 7 à 11 ans et 12
à 18 ans), on distribuera trois prix aux pêcheurs ayant attrapé les plus
grosses truites arc-en-ciel, brunes ou mouchetées. Veuillez noter que
seules les truites arc-en-ciel, brunes et mouchetées peuvent être pesées
et donner droit à un prix.
Le Club offrira gratuitement une boisson et un hamburger ou un
hot-dog aux participants et à leurs parents.
Les enfants n'ont pas besoin d'avoir un permis de pêche, mais ils
doivent se conformer à la loi ontarienne qui permet d'avoir en sa possession
seulement deux poissons. L’usage d’hameçons sans ardillons
est conseillé afin de pouvoir remettre à l’eau les prises plus petites et
ne garder que les poissons donnant droit à un prix. Pour l’occasion, on
ensemencera l’étang avec des truites arc-en-ciel, brunes et
mouchetées; il ne vous reste qu’à apporter votre canne à pêche, vos
appâts (aucun appât vivant) et votre bonne humeur.

Ici, à Borden, le service des Loisirs communautaires du PSP offre des activités et des
programmes toute l’année, mais il souhaite créer une occasion spéciale d’encourager
les résidants à participer davantage à toutes les activités récréatives qui sont offertes.
La pratique des loisirs améliore la qualité de vie, entretient les facultés d’apprentissage, prolonge
l’espérance de vie, favorise la joie de vivre et, en plus, donne aux enfants et aux
jeunes l’occasion de développer des compétences et d’acquérir une image positive d’euxmêmes.
En outre, les loisirs développent la créativité et contribuent au maintien d’une
bonne santé et d’un style de vie sain. La participation à des activités récréatives renforce
l’unité familiale, favorise le développement communautaire et encourage le bénévolat; elle
développe les interactions sociales, est créatrice de fierté et de vitalité au sein de la collectivité
et améliore la sensibilité et la compréhension de la diversité culturelle.
Compte tenu de tous les avantages des loisirs, comment pourrait-on ne pas vouloir participer?
Borden offre plus de 40 loisirs récréatifs, notamment des clubs et des activités en
groupe, des cours de conditionnement physique, des programmes destinés aux enfants, des
programmes de natation, une salle de quilles, un gymnase, une bibliothèque ainsi que des
programmes ouverts de gymnastique et de natation. Borden peut s’enorgueillir d’un excellent
sentier de randonnée pavé (Sentier Trillium), de terrains de sport et de nombreux terrains
de jeux pour les enfants.

Aboriginal Awareness

From school children and civilians, military
members, members of the Canadian Rangers
program and honoured guests from various
Native communities, the Aboriginal Awareness event
was a memorable one.
Numerous displays were set up on Wednesday, May
22, at CFB Borden, where visitors could talk with Native
leaders, ask questions and get some insight into their
dynamic Native culture and beliefs.
The guests were then invited to form a circle, where a
Native blessing was given. After this, a traditional
smudging ceremony was performed and members of the
circle were invited to smudge if they chose to. Native
elders teach that, before a person can be healed one must
be cleansed of any negative feelings, thoughts, bad spirits
and energy; to be cleansed both physically and spiritually.
Smudging then helps the healing to come through
clearly, without being distorted by negativity. Native
people throughout the world use herbs to accomplish
this. The common smudging ceremony burns certain
herbs and participants take the smoke in their hands and
rub or brush it over the body. In Western North America
the three plants most frequently used in smudging are
sage, cedar, and sweetgrass.

“Aboriginal Awareness Week provides an important
opportunity to increase awareness of Aboriginal Peoples
contributions to the defence and protection of Canada, to
the Canadian Armed Forces and to Canadian society,”
said the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National
Defence. “For over two hundred years Aboriginal
Peoples' have helped to protect our territory.”
The ceremony continued with a traditional chant,
where visitors were treated to some Native teachings and
a historical perspective on the song performed at the ceremony.
“This year’s theme invited us to also celebrate the
return to the teachings, traditions and cultural contributions
of Aboriginal Peoples in Canada,” said Lieutenant-
General Peter Devlin, Commander of the Canadian
Army and National Defence Champion for Aboriginal
Peoples. “The concepts of respect and sharing that form
the foundation of the Aboriginal way of life are built
around these teachings and traditions, and we can learn
much from them. We have greatly benefited from
Aboriginal Peoples’ many contributions and achievements
over the years. They were valued comrades during
the War of 1812, in South Africa during the Boer War,
during the First and Second World War, the Korean War,
the Gulf War and continue to be so during our operations
Afghanistan.”

Sensibilisation aux cultures autochtones
Pour les écoliers, tout comme pour
les civils, les militaires, les membres
du programme des Rangers
canadiens et les honorables invités des différentes
communautés autochtones, l’activité
récente de sensibilisation aux cultures
autochtones fut mémorable.
Les visiteurs ont pu observer de nombreuses
expositions le mercredi 22 mai, à la
BFC Borden, où ils pouvaient échanger
avec les chefs autochtones, poser des questions
et avoir un aperçu de leurs cultures
dynamiques et de leurs croyances.
Les participants étaient ensuite invités à
former un cercle pour recevoir une bénédiction
autochtone. Par la suite, ils ont
assisté à une cérémonie traditionnelle de
purification, à laquelle ils avaient le choix
de participer ou non.
Les aînés autochtones enseignent
qu’une personne ne peut être soignée
qu’après avoir éliminé ses sentiments, ses
pensées, ses énergies et ses esprits négatifs,
afin d’être purifiée tant physiquement que
spirituellement. La cérémonie permet alors
au processus de guérison de s’opérer librement,
sans être influencé par la négativité.
Partout dans le monde, les peuples
autochtones utilisent des herbes à cette fin.
La méthode la plus courante consiste à les
faire brûler et à inviter les participants à
recueillir la fumée dans leurs mains, pour
ensuite l’étaler sur leurs corps. Dans l’ouest
de l’Amérique du Nord, les trois plantes
étant les plus fréquemment utilisées dans
ce but sont la sauge, le cèdre et le foin
d’odeur.

A fond farewell to a true leader

As an MSE Op, CWO Greeley first began his trades training at the Canadian
Forces School of Administration and Logistics (CFSAL) in 1978. It was during
this early stage of his career that his sense of pride and camaraderie in the
Logistics Corps was instilled within him. Over the next two decades he returned to the
Logistics Branch’s “home station” for a variety of courses, and in 2001 he began the first
of a series of actual postings in Borden. Serving within both the training environment (at
CFSAL) and on the Base support side (first within the Administration Branch and now the
Technical Services Branch), there are very few individuals who have left as much of a legacy
on a Base as CWO Greeley has on Borden.
At CFSAL, now known as the Canadian Forces Logistics Training Centre (CFLTC), he
spent significant time and effort assisting in the modernization of courseware and always
made himself available to assist and mentor the staff and students of the Training
Establishment (TE). He was also instrumental in the creation of the TE’s redesign of the
front entrance, including fabrication and installation of the main sign and flag cluster. He
synchronized the construction and putting in place of the tri-service representative monuments
in front of CFB Borden/CFSTG HQ, the emplacement of a reviewing dais, and the
swapping out of the foreign artillery pieces for Canadian pieces that flank the main entry
stairs. He coordinated the identification and siting of monuments for the new Sicily Parade
Square, and was the driving force behind the closing out of the old Sicily Parade Square that
witnessed a formal farewell parade by the RCASC, the original “users”. In fact, CWO
Greeley has been involved with the RCASC reunions since 2003 and he was instrumental
in seeking then Command support for the coordination of the placement of the RCASC
Soldier Apprentice Monument and Benches. All RCASC members hold CWO Greeley as
a model soldier and are extremely grateful for his contributions to their historical significance.
A true testament to his dedication to history, he arranged for commemorative pieces
of the parade square to be made available for parading members to take home as mementos.
Always mindful of the contributions of others and of the historical significance of CFB
Borden, CWO Greeley on his own time is often seen hosting a variety of veterans and veteran
groups at CFB Borden. Another example of his outstanding dedication to past history
and to recognizing all those who have served at CFB Borden, was his outstanding support
in the relocation of the WOs & Sgts Mess to its new location, and the sourcing, siting
and installation of the facility’s tri-service monuments.
CWO Greeley’s charismatic persona brings out the best in all with whom he works. He
has the unique ability to bring out the best in people. His ability to inspire was most evident
in his meticulous orchestration of the efforts of the CFB Borden Communities in
Bloom team; a team that not only garnered national level recognition, but took first place
amongst CF entries in only its second year of participation. Throughout the entire preparatory
and evaluation process, CWO Greeley demonstrated a level of leadership that significantly
enhanced the cohesiveness, pride and morale of the entire Base. There are very few
who can motivate a pride of ownership like he can. This was most apparent in his “clean
up the Base” task whereby he mobilized the entire military component of the Technical
Services Branch to clean up refuse and fallen trees in the Base’s main common areas.
The conceptualization and implementation of the CFB Borden Heritage Trenches and
Base Arboretum, key initiatives implicated within the Communities in Bloom objectives,
owes their successful creation to CWO Greeley. These ideas will not only serve as important
areas of heritage and conservation, but will provide focal points for reflection and relaxation
for generations to come.
CWO Greeley is a widely respected and most personable NCM who works exceptional-

À l’EALFC, qui deviendra plus tard le
Centre d’instruction de logistique des
Forces canadiennes (CILFC), l’adjudant-
chef Greeley consacre beaucoup de temps et
d’efforts à appuyer la modernisation des
didacticiels. Il se rend toujours disponible
pour aider et encadrer les stagiaires de
l’établissement d’instruction. Il joue également
un rôle essentiel dans la transformation
de l’entrée principale de l’établissement,
y compris la fabrication et l’installation
de l’enseigne principale, et le regroupement
des drapeaux. En outre, il réussit à
accomplir en parallèle ce qui suit : la construction
et l’édification des monuments
représentant les trois armées situés en face
du Quartier-général de la BFC Borden et du
Groupe de l’instruction de soutien des
Forces canadiennes; la mise en place d’une
estrade d’honneur; et le remplacement des
pièces d’artillerie étrangères par des pièces
canadiennes, de chaque côté des marches de
l’entrée principale. Par la suite, il coordonne
la recherche et le choix du site des monuments
destinés au nouveau terrain de parade

On Thursday, May 23 a Depart with Dignity dinner was held at the Officers Mess to thank
and honour CWO Wade Greeley as he sets off to enjoy his retirement.
Hundreds of guests arrived to share stories, memories, laughs and sentiments to a man
who truly embodied the essence of leadership and work ethic. As described in the article,
CWO Greeley has been involved in literally countless projects and initiatives, to not only
better the landscape of the Bases he has occupied, but to also touch people on a personal
level.
We wish CWO Greeley nothing but the very best as he embarks on the next chapter of his
life.

même nom, où les membres du Corps royal
de l’intendance de l’Armée canadienne
(RCASC), premiers utilisateurs, ont défilé
pour la dernière fois. En fait, l’adjudantchef
Greeley participe aux rassemblements
du RCASC depuis 2003. Cette année-là, il
contribue largement à obtenir l’appui du
commandement en ce qui concerne la mise
en place du monument et des bancs dédiés
aux apprentis soldats du RCASC. Les membres

remercient grandement de sa contribution
envers la reconnaissance de l’importance
historique du Corps. Pour affirmer de plus
belle son dévouement envers le patrimoine,
il veille à ce que les membres du défilé puissent
emporter les pièces commémoratives
du terrain de parade en guise de souvenirs.
Toujours conscient de l’apport des autres et
de l’importance historique de la BFC
Borden, il profite souvent de ses moments
libres pour accueillir différents anciens
combattants ou groupes d’anciens combattants
à la BFC Borden. Comme autre exemple
de son dévouement exceptionnel envers
la préservation du passé et la reconnaissance
de ceux qui ont servi dans la Base, ajoutons
le soutien extraordinaire qu’il offre au Mess
des adjudants et des sergents lorsque ce
dernier déménage, notamment en ce qui a
trait à la recherche, au choix de l’emplacement
et à l’installation des monuments
représentant les trois armées qui doivent
être érigés devant le Mess.
Très charismatique, l’adjudant-chef
Greeley possède la qualité unique de faire
ressortir le meilleur des personnes qui travaillent
avec lui. À preuve, il brille par sa
capacité à inspirer les autres et le soin qu’il
met à orchestrer le travail de l’équipe
responsable du concours « Collectivité en
fleurs » de la Base. Cette dernière, en plus
d’être reconnue à l’échelle nationale, termine
première parmi les organismes des FC,
deux ans seulement après ses débuts. Par
ailleurs, l’adjudant chef Greeley met son
leadership à profit pour améliorer de façon
importante la cohésion, la fierté et le moral
dans l’ensemble de la Base, tout au long du
processus de préparation et d’évaluation.
Très peu de personnes sont capables de susciter
un tel sentiment d’appartenance. Cette
aptitude se révèle le plus clairement
lorsqu’il se charge de la tâche « Nettoyons
la Base », au cours de laquelle il mobilise
tous les militaires des Services techniques,
en vue de ramasser les déchets et les arbres
tombés dans les principales aires communes
de la Base.
C’est grâce à l’adjudant-chef Greeley
que la BFC Borden réussit à conceptualiser
et à restaurer ses tranchées d’entraînement,
à créer son arboretum et à entreprendre les
initiatives clés liées aux objectifs du concours
Collectivités en fleurs. En plus de
constituer des sites importants de conservation
du patrimoine, les lieux visés seront
source de réflexion et de relaxation pour les
futures générations.
L’adjudant-chef Greeley est un militaire
du rang hautement respecté et très sympathique,
qui collabore à merveille avec tous.
Ses pairs ainsi que les officiers supérieurs
font fréquemment appel à ses sages conseils.
Depuis son arrivée à la BFC Borden, il
consacre généreusement son temps à divers
projets qui continueront à rejaillir sur les
prochains occupants et visiteurs de la Base.
Impeccable dans sa prestance militaire et sa
perspicacité en matière de traditions et de
patrimoine, il mérite pleinement d’être
reconnu pour son influence positive dans la
seule et unique Base à relever du chef du
personnel militaire.

Le Mess des caporaux et des soldats
souhaite la bienvenue au personnel
et aux stagiaires qui feront du
Mess leur second chez soi pendant
leur absence du foyer, au cours des
prochains mois. La plupart des membres
du Mess ont pour principe de
travailler fort d’abord, pour bien s’amuser
ensuite. Fêtes populaires du
jeudi soir, soirées-spectacles, soirées
de divertissement, barbecues du vendredi,
activités sportives ou soirées
cinéma du mardi, il est possible
d'avoir du bon temps de multiples
façons. On peut aussi réserver l’endroit
pour des réceptions privées, ou
encore réserver la salle des sports et
l’aire de barbecue pour y célébrer les

The LCC shows off new location

On May 27th, 2013, the Learning
and Career Centre (LCC) held an
open house to show off their new
(and permanent) location in building E-108
and to broadcast all the services the LCC provides
to individual and units.
The Borden Learning and Career Centre
opened in 2003 and has been providing CFB
Borden Defence Team Members with access
to the Defence Leadership Curriculum and
other professional development opportunities.
Since the Centre opened, close to 5600
participants, taking part in a wide range of
professional development courses and activities,
have come through the doors.
What some people may not realize is that
learning centres are involved in cutting-edge
technology that will transform how we do
learning. The Distance Learning Network has
recently launched its distributed learning
branch of the network.
The LCC opening ceremony saw a great
outcome with several COs and Cmdts attending.
After the greeting from myself (Kyna
Sivret, Learning Assistant), the CFB Borden
Commander, Col Harris, addressed the guests
stating, "The Defence Priorities for 2013-
2017, and in particular the forth priority,
states, ‘maximize military and civilian potential
by continuing to strengthen leadership
capacity, succession planning, continuous
learning and professional development.’ The
Learning and Career Centre helps us as a
team meet this priority."
After the ribbon cutting, the tour started
with the visit of the LCC classroom with an
overview of our 26 courses by LeeAnn
Furlotte, Learning Advisor.

et de carrière (CAC) a tenu
une journée portes ouvertes pour
présenter ses nouvelles installations (permanentes),
dans le bâtiment E 108. C’était aussi
l’occasion de promouvoir tous les services
qu’il offre au personnel et aux unités.
Depuis 2003, le CAC permet aux membres
de l’Équipe de la Défense de la BFC
Borden de participer aux activités du
Curriculum de leadership de la Défense, et de
profiter d’autres occasions de perfectionnement
professionnel.
Depuis son ouverture, près de 5 600 participants
y sont passés pour prendre part à un
vaste éventail de cours et d’activités de perfectionnement

Une fois le ruban coupé, les invités ont pu
visiter le Centre, en commençant par la salle
de classe, où LeeAnn Furlotte, conseillère en
apprentissage, leur a donné un aperçu des 26

visiteurs vers la salle de ressources du Centre,
où elle leur a présenté les différentes
ressources offertes par la Défense.
L’activité s’est terminée par une légère
collation, du gâteau (coupé par le premier
maître de 1re classe Denis) et des boissons.

Planning for the Borden Family Resource Centre’s Annual Family Fun Day is in
progress. The event has been scheduled for Saturday, October 5, from 11:00 a.m. to
3:00 p.m. Past Family Fun Day’s have featured attractions such as the OPP safety
village, magicians, clowns, singers, puppets, kiddie commando, teddy bear first aid
clinic and much more. Last year, approximately 800 people attended the event!
Each year, the Centre invites community organizations in support of military families
to join in the day, whether it is to set up a display booth, provide an activity or
assist with funding. If your community organization would like to get involved, please
contact the Borden Family Resource Centre at 705-424-1200 ext. 2557 for more information.
Nous sommes en train de planifier la journée annuelle de divertissement en famille
du CRFB. L’activité est prévue le 5 octobre 2013 de 11 h à 15 h.. Dans le passé, parmi
les activités d’intérêt, on y trouvait le Village de la sécurité de la Police provinciale de
l’Ontario, des magiciens, des clowns, des chanteurs, des marionnettes, un parcours du
risque pour les petits et une clinique de nounours de premiers soins. L’an dernier, 800
personnes ont participé.
Chaque année, le CRFB invite les organismes communautaires à prendre part aux
activités pour montrer leur appui aux familles des militaires, soit en tenant un kiosque
pour présenter leurs programmes, soit en créant une activité divertissante ou encore en
participant aux activités de levée de fonds. Si votre organisme souhaite prendre part à
l’évènement, renseignez-vous en communiquant avec le personnel du Centre de

Une tournée de magasinage qui a pour principal intérêt de combiner à merveille une visite
du centre-ville unique de Frankenmuth et du temps passé dans les magasins d’usine
(«Outlets»). Parlez en à vos amis et joignez-vous à nous pour trois jours de «thérapie chez
les détaillants».
À quelques kilomètres de la frontière, Frankenmuth est le paradis du magasinage. Son
centre-ville pittoresque comprend des commerces uniques qui offrent un petit quelque

SAS Course 1301
The Senior Air Supervisor (SAS) Course serial
1301 started on 11 Apr 13 (duration of 11 training
days) at the Air Command Academy (ACA) comprising
of 29 students from across North America. The
course is designed for senior MWO’s and CWO’s with the
aim of preparing them for present and future leadership
challenges within senior positions in the RCAF and CAF
and is the last in the series of Air Force leadership courses
within the RCAF. As well, we had the distinct pleasure of
having Senior Master Sgt Hayden Pickett from the USAF
Senior NCO Academy in Alabama as a student/instructor.
The course is predominantly geared towards providing
situational awareness to MWO’s and CWO’s who are moving
out of tactical level positions, that they have become
experts in over 17-32 years, and introducing them to the
operational and strategic level thinking process. The RCAF
CWO, CWO Kevin West, in his opening remarks and subsequent
presentations enforced the fact that the students on
this course will be the ones helping to lead the RCAF
through this period of transformation and into a future
RCAF, looking as far as 2030. We had the distinct pleasure
of having Senator Pamela Wallin give an enlightening presentation
on the Senate Committee and the political decision
making process and how it applied to DND and the CAF.
Throughout the 11 days, every component of the CAF had
a representative give a brief on the state of their organization
and the future challenges. The Commandant of the
ACA introduced us to components of the new FORCE PT
test and, during a light run in the rain, the importance of
maintaining physical fitness throughout the RCAF. With
some presentations more colourful than others, all of us can
agree that we came out of this course with a better understanding
of what will be required of the leaders of the future
and that we are now in positions to have a positive effect
into leading the RCAF into a positive future.
Le Cours CSFA 1301
Le Cours de chef supérieur de la Force aérienne
(CSFA) 1301 a débuté le 11 avril 2013. Le cours,
d’une durée de 11 jours d’instruction, a été donné
à l’École du Commandement aérien (ECA) et 29 stagiaires
venus de partout en Amérique du Nord y ont participé. Ce
cours est conçu à l’intention des adjudants-maîtres (adjum)
expérimentés et des adjudants chefs (adjuc) dans le but de
les préparer à affronter les défis actuels et futurs qui, en
matière de leadership, attendent les titulaires des postes
supérieurs de l’Aviation royale canadienne (ARC) et des
Forces armées canadiennes (FAC). Il s’agit du dernier de la
série des cours sur le leadership de la Force aérienne donnés
par l’ARC. Soulignons que nous avons eu le grand plaisir
de compter parmi nous, en qualité de stagiaire/instructeur,
le Senior Master Sgt Hayden Pickett, membre de l’USAF
Senior NCO Academy, située en Alabama aux États Unis.

subséquentes a insisté sur le fait que les stagiaires de
ce cours sont ceux qui appuieront la direction que prendra
l’ARC pendant sa présente période de transformation vers
sa forme à venir, allant aussi loin qu’en 2030. La sénatrice
Pamela Wallin nous a fait le plaisir de nous donner une
éclairante présentation sur le comité sénatorial ainsi que sur
le processus politique de prise de décisions et la façon qu’il
est mis en œuvre à l’intention du ministère de la Défense
nationale et des FAC. Pendant ces 11 jours, un représentant
de chaque composante des FAC est venu nous donner un
briefing sur son organisation et les défis qui l’attendent. Le
commandant de l’ECA nous a présenté le nouveau test de
condition physique FORCE et, à l’occasion d’une petite
course sous la pluie, il a rappelé l’importance de rester en
bonne condition physique, quel que soit le poste occupé
dans l’ARC. À la suite de ces présentations, dont certaines
étaient plus colorées que d’autres, nous pouvons tous nous
entendre pour reconnaître que ce cours nous a donné une
meilleure compréhension de ce qui attend les futurs leaders
et que nous sommes maintenant prêts à agir positivement
sur la direction de l’ARC vers un bel avenir.

amend a contract to remove a comma
between the words "freight" and
"rebates." The result cost AMJ
$759,000. (AMJ Campbell Inc. v. Kord
Products Inc.)
AMJ was finalizing the details of the
sale of its $13 million container manufacturing
subsidiary to Kord Products
Inc. Kord's lawyers requested several
changes to the contract including adding
the famous comma in a clause calculating
the purchase price. The change was
made and the revised contract was
approved and signed.
After the deal closed AMJ realised the
comma's cost and sued to have the contract
corrected arguing that they did not
know the comma was added. The court

contractors to teach First Aid / CPR / AED courses
for remuneration. If you are a certified St. John
Ambulance instructor or interested in becoming a
certified instructor, we welcome any experience in
training, education, emergency services or health
and safety as an asset. Bilingual is also an asset
but not required. As an independent contractor it
is your responsibility to attain your St. John
Ambulance Instructor certification to be eligible
for teaching. A St. John Ambulance instructor
course is being held July 15 - 19 in Barrie for interested
candidates. Weekday and weekend work is
available. Some travel may be required.
