(1957–2003)<br />

Caleb lewis, originally from rome, Georgia, has a bachelor’s degree in church<br />

music from furman university, where he studied conducting from les Hicken<br />

and Hugh floyd. He serves as director of music ministry <strong>at</strong> peachtree Corners<br />

presbyterian Church and also works as a professional medical and legal spanish<br />

interpreter.<br />

evan wichman is a first-year master’s degree candid<strong>at</strong>e in choral conducting.<br />

He gradu<strong>at</strong>ed in 2011 from syracuse university.<br />

Harris Gessner is in his first year of gradu<strong>at</strong>e study in choral conducting <strong>at</strong><br />

emory. He is a 2011 gradu<strong>at</strong>e of the university of auburn.<br />

Meg Granum is a second-year master’s degree student in sacred music <strong>at</strong><br />

emory. she serves as the director of elementary and youth music ministries <strong>at</strong><br />

first presbyterian Church of <strong>at</strong>lanta where she conducts the Carol Choir (first<br />

and second graders), archangel Choir (third and fifth graders), and youth Choir<br />

(sixth and twelfth graders), and she is also the director of the Carillon (bell)<br />

Choir. she gradu<strong>at</strong>ed in 2011 from st. olaf College with a degree in church<br />

music. Meg sings with the emory Concert Choir, university Chorus, and <strong>at</strong>lanta<br />

sacred Chorale, and she plays viola in the emory university symphony orchestra.


Joel Thompson is a second-year master’s degree student studying choral<br />

conducting <strong>at</strong> emory. He currently serves as head of the music ministry and<br />

head pianist for duluth seventh-day adventist Church. He has also served<br />

as music director, vocal coach, or pianist for 5 ad Hoc Musical The<strong>at</strong>re<br />

productions, including The Mystery of Edwin Drood, The Apple Tree, and<br />

the 25th annual putnam County spelling bee. Thompson won the award for<br />

outstanding musical direction from the emory chapter of alpha psi omega (a<br />

n<strong>at</strong>ional the<strong>at</strong>er honor society) in 2008 and 2011. He is also conductor of three<br />

ensembles: the duluth adventist string orchestra, the duluth sda Choir, and<br />

the <strong>at</strong>lanta Korean sda orchestra. Thompson was the 2010 winner of the<br />

emory Concerto Competition with stravinsky’s Concerto for piano and winds.<br />

He was also the recipient of the 2010 excellence in Music award from the<br />

friends of Music <strong>at</strong> emory.<br />

Tyrone webb is a second-year gradu<strong>at</strong>e student <strong>at</strong> emory pursuing a master of<br />

music degree in choral conducting. in May 2011, he received a bachelor of arts<br />

degree in conducting from Morehouse College in <strong>at</strong>lanta. while <strong>at</strong> Morehouse,<br />

webb studied conducting with david e. Morrow and served in a variety of<br />

musical leadership positions, including student director of the Morehouse<br />

College Glee Club (2010–2011), and music director of the Xi eta Chapter of<br />

phi Mu alpha sinfonia fr<strong>at</strong>ernity of america inc. (2009–2011). webb is a n<strong>at</strong>ive<br />

of blakely, Georgia.<br />

the emory mastersingers<br />

The emory Mastersingers are a select subset of the emory Concert Choir. it<br />

is emory’s smallest chamber choir and the primary training medium for the<br />

students pursuing their master’s degrees in choral conducting. The name<br />

“Mastersingers” also evokes the Meistersingers, musical guilds th<strong>at</strong> origin<strong>at</strong>ed<br />

in western Germany in the fourteenth century.<br />

musiC <strong>at</strong> emory<br />

The department of Music <strong>at</strong> emory university provides an exciting and innov<strong>at</strong>ive<br />

environment for developing knowledge and skills as a performer, composer,<br />
