The Frank Hughes
School Jr. High Lady
Lions ended another
successful season.
During seasonal play, the
girls sustained only one
conference loss. They
defeated Linden and
Lobelville twice, and
split with Waynesboro.
The team went into
the Tennessee River
Conference tournament
as fi rst place after a coin
toss with Waynesboro.
This put them in the
driver’s seat to victory.
The Lady Lions defeated
Lobelville in the
opening game, 14-0.
They faced Waynesboro
in the second round. The
Lady Lions maintained
the lead throughout the
game and won with a
score of 9-5.This second
win placed the girls in
the championship game.

Jr. Lady Lions Repeat As
District Tourney Champions
They would wait several
hours to discover their
opponent. The Linden
Lady Vikings defeated
Lobelville. This win
matched them up with
the WMS Lady Cats. The
Lady Cats overcame the
Vikings leading them back
into the championship
game against the FHS
Lady Lions.
The fi nal game of the
evening was quite a
battle. The lead switched
hands each inning, and
the Lady Lions faced a 3
run defi cit in the 5 th. The
Lady Lions fought back
in the 6 th by shutting out
the Lady Cats. They then
answered with 7 runs
of their own. Neither
team was willing to give
up, but the Lady Lions
pulled it out with a 15-12
victory.

The tournament win
was a repeat for the
Lady Lions. Since
the conference was
established in 2009,
the Lady Lions have
had two championships
and two runner-up
up fi nishes. The girls
should be congratulated
for their efforts and
successes. Several girls
have been recognized for
their accomplishments.
Mallory Cherry,
Lacey Staggs, Paige
Churchwell, and Hannah
Kate Love were selected
as all-conference for their
performance during the
2012 season. Madison
Holt and Julianne
Blackburn played major
roles in every victory and
should be applauded for
the leadership that they
provided for this team.
