Randy Rogers
5th Season
Never settling for mediocre, Randy Rogers brought a relentless
pursuit of perfection to CSI when he took the job four years
ago. It has paid off. In his second season, Rogers brought home a
regular-season championship, Region 18 Tournament championship
and a NJCAA consolation championship. The next year, he
did even better. The Golden Eagles, not only won the Scenic
West Athletic Conference title, the Region 18 Tournament title
and ended the season ranked No. 1 in the NJCAA poll, CSI
brought home runner-up hardware at the national tournament,
finishing higher than any Region 18 team has ever finished.
In 2005-06, he posted a 25-7 record, notching his 100th
college win in just four years. An intense coach, Rogers focuses
on teaching fundamentals, playing aggressive hard-nosed defense and running when at all possible.
"My offensive philosophy is to take the first,
best available shot," Rogers said. "Our defense
will create offense. We will push the ball every
single possession. I also want my team to be in
the very best shape. I don't want to lose a game
by a factor that can be taken care of before
hand."
Rogers said he likes to run man-to-man
defense primarily but will throw in various
zone traps - half court and full court.
Rogers, who came to CSI from Spring
Creek High School, was named Nevada Prep
Coach of the Year for all divisions in 2001-02.
He holds a 50-10 division record from 1997
to 2002 and a 92-49 overall record. He qualified
for state all five years, earning runner-up
titles in 1999 and 2001. He was named AAA
Division I Coach of the Year in 1998, 1999,
2000 and 2001 as well as 1999 AAA Nevada
Basketball Coach of the Year. Rogers earned
his bachelor's degree from Utah State University
in physical education. Prior to attending
Utah State, he attended Salt Lake CC and Dixie
College.
