CLTC is BBYO’s dynamic training experience for AZA and BBG Chapter leaders. At CLTC, teens grow personally,
explore their Jewish identity and learn specific skills to help them strengthen their Chapter at home. This is accomplished
through a hands-on, interactive and experiential approach. The participants are divided into mock AZA and BBG Chapters
where teamwork and community must be established to successfully accomplish the various tasks that are assigned
during the session. The CLTC experience does not end the day the session is over. The friendships that are created at
CLTC are monumental. Participants use these friendships during the year to network on programming, elections,
speeches, fundraising and other activities. In addition, CLTC participants receive monthly emails with additional
information on topics that were covered during the summer.
“The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens” informs the leadership experience and inspires teens to develop good work
habits, to teach them how to work with their peers in a positive environment, to help them recognize their strengths, and to
set standards for themselves now and in their future years as adults.
Participants delve into:
Starting a New Chapter: Chapter standards, working with advisors, and fundraising.
BBYO Vision: Cardinal Principles, Menorah Pledge, AZA & BBG History and songs
Election Procedures: Officer responsibilities, voting procedures, chairpeople and committees
Meeting Procedures: planning an agenda and running a successful meeting
Programming: AZA and BBG folds, brainstorming, step-by-step program planning, calendaring, program bank and
program evaluation.
Communication: verbal, non-verbal, listening, communicating with Chapter members, phone calls, social media
and networking
Membership: Where to find members, recruitment, making members feel welcome, new member training, steps
for retention
“How To” Sessions: parliamentary procedure, problem-solving, BBYO policies, public speaking, b-linked and
youth dashboard training, and best practices
Health Care at CLTC
All prescription medications as well as over the counter medications that are taken daily must be turned in upon arrival at
camp. For the safety of the participants, no medications are permitted in the sleeping rooms. Participants are allowed to
keep their inhalers with them. CLTC has a nurse on staff that dispenses medication and oversees general healthcare of
CLTC staff and participants.
In the event it becomes necessary to seek the service of an outside doctor or hospital, parents will be notified
immediately. However, parents are required to sign a medical release form so that emergency treatment can be rendered
when parents are unable to be reached. Cost of medical services by camp personnel are covered by registration fees.
Service provided outside of camp will be charged to the participant’s family medical plan. BBYO carries a $50 deductible
limited accident insurance policy for each participant (which is in addition to, not a substitute for the family medical
insurance.)
It is important that all medical information is included on the medical forms. Participants should continue their
medications at CLTC. This program is highly structured and in a classroom setting much of the time. In the
past, participants who were on medications for ADD during the school year experienced difficulties with the
structured CLTC program when they did not take their medications at CLTC.
CLTC Experience and Guidelines
Participant Experience at CLTC
The CLTC experience is enhanced by the teens who participate in it. Your full involvement and contributions in
classes, workshops, discussions and planning throughout the 12 days at CLTC will what makes CLTC, the
friendships you make, and the leadership you develop unlike any other.
I am attending CLTC to participate fully in 12 days of learning, growing and leading with my peers from across
North America.
I have new ideas, valuable questions, and unique experiences that I can share with my peers during lectures,
classes, workshops, discussions, exploration of Judaism, and other activities aimed at development of leadership
skills.
My peers will also have new ideas, valuable questions, and unique experiences that I can learn from. By
respecting other people, their thoughts and opinions I will have more enriching CLTC experience.
I will be participating in a variety of programs designed to improve my BBYO leadership and to provide me with
resources and tools to take home for my chapter and region. My active participation in all of these programs will
make me a stronger leader, and my chapter a stronger chapter.
Through my time in BBYO I know that there are a variety of ways to practice and celebrate our Judaism. I will
participate fully and respectively in services and other related programs to get the most out of the beauty of a
CLTC Shabbat.
As a BBYO leader I know and uphold the BBYO Code of Conduct. I am attending CLTC as an ambassador for my
chapter/council/region and will conduct myself according to the Cardinal/Menorah Pledge Principles.
Behavior Guidelines
As a proud Aleph or BBG I will be attending CLTC and will uphold the BBYO Code of Conduct. I will show
respect for myself, my sisters, brothers, camp staff, camp facilities and the legacy of BBYO leaders before me.
With respect for my body, and the BBYO Code of Conduct, I will not possess, use or consume any
alcoholic beverages, controlled substances, tobacco products or illegal drugs at any BBYO program.**
I understand that the staff at summer programs will inspect all personal property, if deemed necessary.
I will respect myself, my peers and the CLTC experience by behaving, dressing and speaking in a way
that is appropriate with the BBYO Code of Conduct. I will not participate in fighting, gambling, fireworks,
or theft of private/public property. Any damage to BBYO property, camp property, and or private
property is at the expense of the individual(s) responsible. **
I am at CLTC to participate fully in the programming. I understand that to perform at my best level I need my rest.
I will be in my assigned room, lights out and ready for bed at the time of curfew. I will not leave my room between
lights out and wake up. **
My CLTC campus and dorm room is my home for 12 days this summer; I will respect the facilities, dorms,
furniture and walls by leaving them in the same condition I received them in.**
I understand that I am expected to be on campus at all times and at all scheduled programming and
meals. AZA’s and BBG’s are not allowed in each other’s sleeping rooms under any circumstances. **
I understand that the programming and meal times at CLTC are intended to foster planning,
networking, and new friendships. I will not hinder that by bringing my cell phones, IPod’s, etc. to
these events.
**I understand that failure to uphold all parts of BBYO’s Code of Conduct is cause for dismissal from the program
at my expense. Also, I understand that if there is involvement of law enforcement agencies, BBYO will not be in a
position to intervene or to protect in any way, those who violate this policy. I also understand that my negative
actions at CLTC may result in consequences at home in my region and local chapter, including but not limited to
suspension from BBYO.
