Register will be available on-line at www.blackhillsareacouncil.com under the Events & Training/<strong>Council</strong><br />
Program Calendar. <strong>Merit</strong> badge classes will have limited space availability and will be filled on a “first<br />
come first serve” basis. there will be no walk-in’s or class switching the day of the <strong>Midway</strong>. If you<br />
do not have access to a computer, you may use a computer at the <strong>Council</strong> office with the approval and<br />
assistance of the staff.<br />
Both the “<strong>Merit</strong> <strong>Badge</strong> Sign-Off” on Friday night and the <strong>Merit</strong> <strong>Badge</strong> <strong>Midway</strong> will be held at the South<br />
Dakota School of Mines & Technology located at 501 East St. Joseph Street, Rapid City. Registration<br />
will take place on Friday night at 5:45pm and Saturday at 7:00am at the Classroom Building.<br />
Scouts participating in the “<strong>Merit</strong> <strong>Badge</strong> Sign-Off” will need to pre-register for the merit badge they<br />
want to have signed-off and bring all requirements with them including a signed merit badge card. If<br />
visiting a place is part of the merit badge requirements, the Scout must bring a signed note from their<br />
Scoutmaster for verification. Each session will take approximately 15-20 minutes.<br />
We encourage everyone to bring a merit badge book for each class they will be taking. If you need to<br />
purchase one, you will need to pre-order by February 15 th . The cost is $3.71 per book (tax included)<br />
and payment is due at the time the order is placed. If your order is not picked up before the <strong>Midway</strong><br />
begins, they will be at registration on Friday night and Saturday morning.<br />
Finally, accommodations will be provided for Scouts on Friday night at Camp Rapid located at 2823<br />
West Main Street. Indicate if you will require overnight accommodations when registering on-line.<br />
Check-in will be from 6:00pm to 10:00pm at Building 801. Please park on the East side of the building<br />
on the lower level. Those spending the night will be responsivle for providing activities for their own<br />
youth not participating in the <strong>Merit</strong> <strong>Badge</strong> <strong>Midway</strong>. this will be available for out of District or <strong>Council</strong><br />
limits Units only. to follow are the Camp Rapid rules:<br />
• No food or drink allowed in the sleeping area.<br />
• Troops will be assigned their own sleeping quarters.<br />
• You are responsible for cleaning your own quarters prior to check-out.<br />
• You will be responsible for cleaning your respective bathroom facilities prio to check-out.<br />
• Respect the base. Remember that Scouts are not the only ones that will be on base.<br />
• You will be charged for any damages.<br />
• Lights out on Friday night will be 10:00pm.<br />
• Camp Rapid is a “Tobacco Free Zone”.<br />
• Alcohol is not permitted at any Boy Scout function.<br />
• Two Deep Leadership is required at all times.<br />
Unit leaders, remind your Scouts that they must be in full uniform and to bring the following items:<br />
Pencil, Paper, <strong>Merit</strong> <strong>Badge</strong> Books, <strong>Merit</strong> <strong>Badge</strong> Cards (signed), Any pre-requisite work required for<br />
<strong>Merit</strong> <strong>Badge</strong>s and any extra fees not paid prior to <strong>Midway</strong>. <strong>Merit</strong> <strong>Badge</strong> cards will be provided by Unit,<br />
if not they will be available for purchase.<br />
