Summer Jobs Service (SJS)<br />

SJS supports employment for students from April to August. It<br />

provides direct access to summer jobs for students aged 15-30, who are<br />

planning to return to school in the fall. Students can also participate<br />

in open workshops to gain knowledge and skills to find jobs.<br />

Participating employers receive a wage subsidy and access to students<br />

who are ready and willing to work in the summer.<br />

Academic and Career Entrance (ACE)<br />

Academic and Career Entrance (ACE) courses are non postsecondary<br />

courses designed to prepare you to succeed in postsecondary<br />

and apprenticeship training. They are accepted as<br />

OSSD equivalent by colleges and Apprenticeship for purposes<br />

of admission. There are 10 ACE courses available. Most students<br />

participate in the courses they need to meet the prerequisites for<br />

admission to further their education.<br />

To receive an ACE Acknowledgment of Completion, you must<br />

successfully complete the Communications (English or Francais)<br />

course, a Mathematics course and any 2 courses from the list below.<br />

Admission Requirements<br />

All students wishing to enroll in an ACE online course must first<br />

complete the Learn to Learn course. This 20 hour online course will help<br />

to determine if you have the necessary personal, computer and academic<br />

skills to successfully participate in ACE online courses. To register for the<br />

Learn to Learn course, please visit www.acedistancedelivery.ca to fill out<br />

an application.<br />

ACE Chemistry, Biology and Communications are not available until<br />

Enhance skills developed in Core Mathematics in preparation for<br />

apprenticeship study. Topics include number sense and algebra;<br />

measurement and geometry; proportional reasoning; analytic<br />

geometry; relations and functions; trigonometric functions;<br />

statistics; and personal finance. Prerequisite: ACE Core Math<br />
