The whole procedure turns out to be linear within the
experimental uncertainty (ca. 0.1%).
The reason is that discriminability is fully decided at
the level of absorption of photons in the retinal
photopigments.
Equal absorption implies equal input to the brain,
thus the brain is simply used as a “null-indicator”!
That is why colorimetry can be a science whereas
“Color Science” is not.
