LETTER FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Will it really get better? I can’t help but have high expectations for 2011 and there’s no denying that the social challenges students are confronted with have increased. That is why I have zoomed our focus away from an entertaining cover to one that would make U think a little harder about how you treat yourself and others. I strongly encourage U to take time out of your busy schedule to engage in one of our programs that challenge your assumptions or provoke your mind. I have witnessed the impact our programs have had in advancing social justice and improving the lives of people. Our dedicated and hardworking staff has worked diligently in expanding existing programs and inventing new ones to encourage U to think about your role here at CSULA! The U-SU Calendar is ALWAYS changing. I am on a quest to push our boundaries a bit further and deliver something unexpected every time. I am sure you have noticed and I hope that this calendar will resonate with U! I can’t stop looking at the cover and what it means to not speak out on these important issues. 03 Mon STUDENT LEADER AWARDS pACKETS AVAILABLE 8 am » Center for Student Involvement 2nd Floor, University-Student Union The Student Leader Awards recognizes and celebrates the many activities, events, and contributions of student organizations, members and advisors at CSULA. Community members are strongly encouraged to apply or nominate individuals and groups who have impacted campus life! The 2010-2011 Student Leader Awards include: Outstanding Community Service/Philanthropic Contribution Outstanding Scholarship/Academic Program Outstanding Contribution to Social Justice Outstanding Student Organization Officer Outstanding Student Organization Advisor New Student Organization of the Year Student Organization of the Year In order to be considered for an award, the student organization must be University recognized and complete an Awards Packet. Awards Packets are due by Friday, March 11 at 5pm at the Center for Student Involvement. The Student Leader Awards ceremony will take place on Thursday, May 12, 2011.
