Body-for- Body Switch Procedure: All body-for-body switch and reassignment requests must be<br />

submitted to Student Affairs at least 4 weeks before the rotation start date.<br />

Orientation for the first Monday:<br />

Students from ALL SITES will begin orientation on the first Monday at UIC. A final email with<br />

orientation day details and schedule will be sent by Liz Walch the Wednesday or Thursday<br />

before Monday's orientation. Please contact Liz only if you haven't received the email by the<br />

Friday before orientation.<br />

SITE ORIENTATION DAY<br />

Students are asked to report to the Medical Student Office located on the 6th floor of the South<br />

Building by 9:00am (unless otherwise noted in reporting instructions email). Orientation day -<br />

students will be meeting with the Medical Student Office coordinator and an <strong>Ob</strong>/<strong>Gyne</strong> resident<br />

as well as attend a <strong>Hospital</strong> scrub session. Students will begin their actual rotation schedule on<br />

the following day. Students should have their white coats with them at all time.<br />

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION<br />

Chicago Northwestern train to Park Ridge station Pace Suburban Bus System from CTA<br />

Rosemont and Cumberland ‘El" stops and from the Park Ridge Metro station.<br />

ACCESS/PARKING<br />

2 blocks East of I-294<br />

Free parking is available on the North Side of Dempster on any open surface lot.<br />

The garage directly in front of the hospital is $8 per day.<br />

Do not park in any lot that needs a token, is gated, or barricaded<br />

CLINICAL ROTATIONS<br />

Each student spends two weeks on obstetrics, two weeks on gyne and two weeks on a clinic<br />

rotation at various sites.<br />

CALL SCHEDULE<br />

Students will either be scheduled for 2 night calls and 1 week of night float or 3 night calls during<br />

their rotation. This will include at least one weekend call. Call hours may vary due to duty hour<br />

compliance and the rotation schedule. Students may be scheduled for call the first Wednesday<br />

evening of their rotation.<br />

HIGHLIGHTS/UNIQUE FEATURES<br />

The student lectures are given in small group format including 5-6 students per attending<br />

lecturer. Several formally prepared case discussions are held with the chairman and clerkship<br />

director. The students have ample opportunity to work with attending physicians in a high<br />

volume ob/gyne service. Since <strong>Lutheran</strong> <strong>General</strong> is a regional tertiary care referral center,<br />

students are able to observe and participate in a wide variety of advanced gyne surgical and<br />

complex obstetrical cases.<br />

RESIDENT/ATTENDING INVOLVEMENT<br />

The chief resident of each respective service is responsible for the medical students, including<br />

evaluations. These evaluations are done in consultation with other members of the service,<br />

including attendings, who have worked with the students. Ten lectures are presented to the<br />

students by faculty during each clerkship. A resident and/or attending physician always<br />

supervises the students.<br />

AMENITIES<br />

Students are provided with free outdoor parking.<br />

The hospital offers a medical library with the appropriate texts, journals, and equipment.<br />

A 25% discount on food purchased in the cafeteria, on the tenth floor.<br />

Meal passes are provided when taking call.<br />

Students are provided lockers.<br />

Additionally, student may purchase a one-month membership to the Fitness Center for $23.<br />

Additional months are available for purchase. Contact a member of the Fitness Center for more<br />

details.<br />
