top of the world. There’s an overow of natural scenery and some excellent views
of Mount Khangchendzonga. And it’s all wrapped up in a blanket of spiritual
serenity, that comes from the many Buddhist monasteries and stupas in the region.

Where is it located?
Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim, is located at an
elevation of 5,600 feet (1,700 m), and sits on the ank
of a ridge.

How to get here
Hit the road
Gangtok is connected by road to Darjeeling,
Kalimpong, Siliguri and other centres apart from all
the district headquarters within Sikkim.
Cut through the clouds
Fly out to Bagdogra airport which is approximately
124 km away, and the nearest airport to Gangtok.
Hop on a train
You can catch a train to Siliguri or New Jalpaiguri
which are the nearest railway stations to Gangtok.

Alpine Bar: This cozy lounge bar, furnished with alpine
timber is well-stocked and serves the best beverages
and cocktails. It’s the perfect place to relax and raise
your spirits at the same time.
Orchid Restaurant: Relaxed seating arrangements,
breathtaking views of surrounding areas, soothing
décor and laid back ambience create a space that is
welcoming yet intimate, unlike that in most hotels. The
buffet here features local cuisine (daily) combined
with Indian, Oriental and Continental dishes
alternately.

Places of interest in Gangtok
Research Institute of Tibetology: This
renowned worldwide centre for the study of Buddhist
philosophy and religion, is a treasure house of rare
thankas, statues, over 200 Buddhist icons and prized
art objects. (Closed on second Saturdays and Govt.
holidays.)
Ganesh Tok: About 7 km from the city, it offers
majestic views of the city far below, framed by
Mt. Khangchendzonga and Mt. Siniolchu.
Nathu La: Nathu La is a pass on the Indo-Chinese
border that serves as a trade link between the two
countries. Situated at a distance of 56 km from
Gangtok, Nathu La Pass has once the main route for
Sikkim - Tibet Trade. Nathu La used to be known as
the Silk Route. At an elevation of 14,450 feet, Nathu La
is renowned for its diverse alpine ora and fauna. The
terms 'Nathu' and 'La' mean 'listening ears' and 'pass'
respectively in the Tibetan language. The road to
Nathu La is one of the highest motorable roads in
India. This road passes through Tsomgo Lake on its
way to Nathu La Pass. For most part of the year, this
tranquil place remains covered under a thick layer of
snow. A special permit is required in order to visit
Nathu La Pass.

Himalayan Zoological Park: Located 8 km away
from town, it is home to the elusive red panda - the
cuddly state animal, barking deer, Himalayan black
bear and others.
Pal Zurmang Kagyud (Ranka) Monastery:
Located at Lingdum village about 20 km from Gangtok,
it was built by the present Gharwang Rinpoche who is
the 12 th incarnate of Zurmang Gharwang.

As this quaint hill station sits on mountainous terrain, there is no direct connectivity to the region
via train or plane. However, roadways ll the gap and offer good connectivity by buses, cabs and
jeeps.

• Sunglasses, camera and any specific medication
• Depending upon the time of the year, the climatic
conditions, and on the activities that you would like to
participate in, please do carry appropriate apparels
