Where is it located?<br />

Kumarakom is located 16 km away from the city of<br />

Kottayam in the state of Kerala. Its biggest draw is the<br />

winding backwaters and the Vembanad Lake, which<br />

is the largest freshwater lake in the state.<br />

Once you reach the resort<br />

Set in the scenic backwaters of Kerala,<br />

<strong>Club</strong> <strong>Mahindra</strong> Kumarakom is a mystical pattern of<br />

quiet canals, and is the perfect natural getaway.<br />

Spread across 17 acres, the resort has quaint<br />

cottages, each of which is accessible by foot over<br />

cobblestone pathways and rustic bridges. Here, some<br />

cottages rest on the banks of the canal, while others<br />

rise out of the water on stilts.


Facilities and amenities<br />

The cottages themselves have air conditioned<br />

interiors with all modern amenities for a comfortable<br />

stay. And when you’re hungry, you can dine al fresco<br />

at Natakshala - The Restaurant of Performing Arts,<br />

where you can experience Kerala’s �nest �avours<br />

and art forms. The resort also offers one of the largest<br />

in-house ayurvedic healing centres in the backwater<br />

region. A coffee shop, conference room, curio shop,<br />

Places of interest in Kumarakom<br />

Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary: Located 15 km west<br />

of Kottayam Town, the village of Kumarakom is on the<br />

eastern banks of the Vembanad Lake. The Kumarakom<br />

Bird Sanctuary is spread across 14 acres of land that<br />

was previously a rubber plantation. One can spot a<br />

large variety of birds such as night herons, purple<br />

moorhen, teals, egrets, waterfowls and Indian fruit<br />

bats among others.<br />

Thirunakkara Mahadeva Temple: Built by the<br />

Thekkumkar Kings, the temple is dedicated to<br />

Lord Shiva. The temple which is believed to be about<br />

5000 years old, has beautiful mural paintings on its<br />

walls that depict stories of the Ramayana and<br />

Mahabharata. The annual Phalguna Utsav held every<br />

year in the month of March attracts thousands of<br />

devotees. The temple remains open from 5 am to 12 pm<br />

and from 5 pm to 8 pm.<br />

St. Mary's Knanaya Church, Valiya Palli: The<br />

St. Mary’s Knanaya Church or Valiya Palli (The big<br />

church) is situated quite close to the Thirunakkara<br />

Mahadeva Temple. The church dedicated to St. Mary,<br />

was constructed in 1550 AD by the successors of the<br />

Syrian Knanaya Christians who came to India in 345 AD.<br />

The church has two granite crosses, which are<br />

carved out of single stones and bear a Pahlavi<br />

language inscription (The official language of the<br />

Persian Dynasty). The altar and the ceiling are<br />

adorned with paintings from the Bible. The church<br />

celebrates St. George’s Feast Say on the 24 th of April<br />

every year.<br />

Thazathangadi Juma Masjid: Situated on the<br />

banks of the Meenachil River, the Thazathangadi<br />

Mosque is fully done in teak. The mosque which is<br />

believed to be around thousand years old was<br />

constructed by Malik Dinar. The carved wooden roof,<br />

the bathing area, the beautifully patterned windows<br />

and the courtyard inside the mosque, make it a must<br />

visit place. The mosque is open from 7 am to 6 pm.<br />

Kumarakom is one of the very few places in the world where a major mode of transportation is<br />

through waterways. You can �nd families travelling to different destinations, bigger boats<br />

carrying goods, and even the mail and morning newspaper being delivered by boats.


Start packing<br />

• Carry your resort confirmation voucher, your<br />

membership card and your photo id<br />

• Any other travel related documentation<br />

• Sunglasses, camera and any specific medication<br />

• Depending upon the time of the year, the climatic<br />

conditions, and on the activities that you would like to<br />

participate in, please do carry appropriate apparels<br />

and footwear. Your holiday consultant can help you in<br />

this regard<br />

• If you are planning a monsoon holiday, do remember<br />

to take your umbrella / raincoat along with you<br />

• Do take note of your travel time from the closest<br />

point of disembarkation to the resort. If it is more than<br />

like enjoying a good book while surrounded by nature<br />
