KANDIE SavingLives IN THE CITY
Reader Submission
Kelly Lawson
On November 19, 2009 we adopted Kandie (formerly Aggie)
from SLCo Animal Services. She was 4 months old at the time,
and was one of the first few Pit Bulls to be adopted out of their
Pit Crew program.
From the beginning, we knew Kandie was something special!
She was such a sweet little puppy, and when you looked
into her eyes, she would melt your heart. She brought a new
excitement into our home.
Kandie is a people dog – she loves people, much more than
she likes dogs. She is always looking for attention and wants
to meet everyone. You may even be able to get her to do a few
tricks. If you ask her to “watch me,” she’ll look you straight in
the eye and she’s got you. What a love bug!
In November 2011, she became a registered therapy dog with
Pet Partners and Therapy Animals of Utah. Now she gets to
meet new friends all the time. She visits the boys at Copper
Hills Youth Center weekly and the clients of Paramount Health
& Rehabilitation monthly. You can put this at the top of her list
of fun things to do!
In addition to therapy visits, Kandie loves to
snuggle, go for walks, do zoomies around the
yard, and play with her 2 sisters and brother
(all adopted). You may even find her out in the
community, being an ambassador for her breed.
Kandie is an amazing example of how Pit Bulls
and Shelter Dogs can be great additions to your
family and the community!
Kandie has also earned her CGC (Canine Good
Citizen) certification, her Bachelor’s & Master’s
degrees with C.L.A.S.S (Canine Life and Social
Skills), and is currently working towards getting
her PhD.
