Many of our readers have rescued their companion animal or animals
from a local shelter or one of the many amazing rescue organizations
in Utah. But for some of us, right now isn’t the best time to adopt a
companion animal or for others, you’re at your capacity to adopt any
more. So how can you help the thousands of animals in desperate
need of assistance?
Our local shelters and rescue groups are not only in need of guardians
to give homeless animals a forever home, but are also in need of people
to foster, volunteer, or donate.
For the extremely generous animal lovers out there who want to
help, but don’t know where to start, here is a list of a few of the many
wonderful local organizations who would greatly appreciate any time,
money, or items you have to offer:

donations to help the homeless pets of Utah. Along with a continual
need for monetary donations, HSU could also use any time you have
to volunteer at the shelter, and any of the following items:

• Kitten milk replacement (KMR)
• Newspaper (for lining animal cages)
• Puppy milk replacement (Esbilac)
• Cat Food
• Dog Food
• Paper towels
• Polar Fleece blankets and towels (to provide softer bedding)
• Latex Gloves — large, medium, and small (for cleaning soiled
cages, soiled laundry, and for medical purposes)
Any items for donation can be dropped off at the shelter Monday
through Sunday during business hours. For more information

Ching Farm Sanctuary & Rescue
in Herriman houses and cares for
dozens of farm animals that would otherwise have been slaughtered.
To keep the farm safe and healthy for the rescued animals, they need
help in the form of tax-deductible donations, volunteers, and donated
items, such as:
• Bags of grain (usually comes in 50 lbs):
o chicken scratch
o cracked corn
o rolled corn (or rolled C.O.B.)
• Used (clean) or new blankets
• Pine shavings (for bedding)
• Clean, dry bales of straw
• New (or used in great shape) toys for dogs, horses and pigs.
• Canned cat food
• Mineral blocks (for goats, horses, llamas)

Paws for Life is a non-profit organization in
Heber City that helps find forever homes for
surrendered, lost, and abandoned dogs, cats, and
horses in the Heber Valley. They also help to ensure the animals that
come into the Heber shelter are immunized, spayed, and neutered, as
well as help pay for the medical costs of sick animals in the shelter. In
addition to volunteer time and fostering, Paws for Life would greatly
appreciate any donations of the following items:
• Dog leashes
• Collars
• Dog treats
• Cat Litter (clay)
• Small towels
• Cat or Dog Carriers
• Cleaning Supplies

The Avian Sanctuary and Protection is a
non-profit organization that helps rescue and
rehabilitates any bird in need of their assistance
here in Utah. ASAP also provides educational courses to the community,
as well as helps to provide improvements to publically accessible local
bird habitats. To continue to provide these wonderful community
services and to maintain the health and safety of the birds in their care,
ASAP is in need of the following:
