Course Description<br />

The objective of this course is to offer non-pain specialists a view of<br />

basic science and clinical in<strong>for</strong>mation, relevant to the practice of pain<br />

medicine. This will include a comprehensive review of scientific data<br />

with clinical relevance to everyday practice, incorporating elements of<br />

evidence-based medicine to pain problems. The presentations will<br />

include the latest literature, clinical guidelines, and evidence-based<br />

medicine applicable to pain medicine.<br />

Our faculty includes experts from the Arnold <strong>Pain</strong> Management Center<br />

at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Emphasis will be given to<br />

recent progress in understanding the pathophysiology and clinical<br />

science of pain medicine.<br />

At the conclusion of this course, participants will have been taken<br />

through an updated review of the curriculum of both the International<br />

Association <strong>for</strong> the Study of <strong>Pain</strong> and the American Board of<br />

Anesthesiology <strong>for</strong> pain specialists.<br />

Who Should Attend<br />

Those who wish to broaden their understanding of the mechanisms of<br />

pain syndromes and pain management techniques in regard to primary<br />

care practice. The knowledge to be gleaned will benefit a broad base<br />

of physician specialties and allied health professionals in general<br />

medicine and specialties including neurology, orthopedics, emergency<br />

medicine, primary care and rheumatology.<br />
