La Grange’s vibrant downtown business district is made up of
neighborly merchants dedicated to offering quality products and
personal, small-town service. Each Thursday from mid-May through
Halloween, check out the Farmers Market.
Tax Increment Financing (TIF) has supported a successful Façade
Renovation/Restoration Program, an extensive Streetscape
Beautification Project and a renovation of the historic La Grange
Theater. In addition, redevelopment has enticed quality chain stores
that include Border’s Books, Trader Joe’s, Pier One, Chipotle, Starbucks,
Francesca’s, Caribou Coffee and Aurelio’s Pizza, to name a few.
Not long ago, the Village approved a redevelopment project that may
include almost 300 upscale apartments, 30,000 square feet of prime
retail space and 26 town homes on the former YMCA site at Ogden
and La Grange Road. The site is ready for construction.
Visitors to La Grange enjoy a broad variety of cuisines to please their
palates including French, Japanese, Italian, Greek, Thai, Mexican
and American. From spring through late fall, outside dining is enjoyed
from morning until night. Ambiances include cafes, beer gardens,
alfresco, fine dining, eclectic, pizza and more.
Complementing these dining establishments are unique gift shops, art
galleries, home decorating shops, historic movie theater, hobby shop,
health food store and others. Ample parking is provided by a parking
structure located in the heart of town.
Many events are held in downtown La Grange including a farmers
market, a 250-exhibit craft show and the West End Art Festival. In
addition, the Annual Pet Parade takes place on the first Saturday after
Memorial Day, which attracts over 120,000 to the area.
West Suburban Living Magazine recently named La Grange one of
the top ten “best suburban downtowns.” Trust us – It is!
The village has a Historic District surrounding the Central Business
District. Much of La Grange’s early history is preserved in its many
finely-restored Victorian, Queen Anne, Vernacular and Prairie School
style homes. Other housing options vary, including condominium
complexes conveniently located downtown and near the commuter
train station.
With the successful conclusion of the Tax Increment Financing district,
preparation is underway for enhanced programs to facilitate Village
investment throughout the business community.
