3.5 Interests relevant to the operation of a community-based radio service.
Has an unusual blend of management expertise at a very high level from
international athletics to business development alongside relevant skills as a
musician, interests in art and commitment to community development.
Moved from national and international athletics performance to international athletics
management.
From significant early achievements, went on to win the Silver Medal in the 800m at
the World Student Games in 1959. Was President of the Oxford University Athletics
Club (OUAC) in 1960.
Represented Great Britain in 1960 (3 times) in the 4 x 400. and won the Bronze
medal in 1961 (with Menzies Campbell in the team).
After teaching at Tonbridge School (1961 – 1968).
Appointed Director of the International Amateur Athletics Federation (IAAF) in 1968
and was Secretary General of the organisation from 1976 – 1992.

– 2000). Also Chair of Mid-Argyll Community Enterprise, 1997 – 2001.
Worked with the Scottish Arts Council as: Director of Enterprise Music Scotland 1997
– 2003; and as Chair of the Finance Committee 1999 – 2003. (CLARIFY SAC)
A committed and competitive musician, he also contributes to the community as Hon.
Secretary of the Mid-Argyll Arts Association; as a Church Organist and Pianist; as an
accordionist for Scottish country dance; and in organising a local Accordion and
Fiddle Club.
Also a key force in the successful initiative and fund raising to build a public
swimming pool in Lochgilphead.
