“League Leaders at Work for Our Future” PRE-CONVENTION KIT Terri Parks – Regional Director Coordinator Terri Parks has been an active member of the board of directors of the League of Women Voters of Buffalo/Niagara since she began editing its monthly bulletin, the Voter, in February 2008. She served on that League’s bylaw revision committee, budget committee, and the transition team to select an office manager in 2010. She was elected League president in June 2011. Terri retired after 32 years as a classroom teacher in the Ken-Ton schools. Carol Mellor – Grassroots Director Carol Mellor has recently joined the State Board of the League of Women Voters of New York after having served as President of the Hamptons local for four years. A member of the Hamptons local since she moved to the East End of Long Island, she also served on the Board of Directors for two years before becoming president. She has also been a member of the national study committee on the National Popular Vote. Carol is a member of the New York State Bar and also is admitted to practice before the federal courts in the Southern District of New York and the Eastern District of New York, as well as the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. Her practice has, in the past, included litigation of constitutional issues, criminal appeals work and municipal employment law. She now specializes in will, trusts and estates. Kathleen F. Stein—Member at Large Kathy helped to revive the St. Lawrence County LWV in 2009 and is currently President of the SLC MAL Unit. She is also Public Policy Chair of the SLC Branch of the AAUW and the two organizations co-sponsor many events, share many members. Kathy is originally from Plymouth, Michigan and she received her B.A. from the University of Michigan. She received her M.A. from the Johns Hopkins University and has over the years been an adjunct instructor at three of the four colleges in the Canton-Potsdam area where she has lived since 1986. She has for the past nine years been teaching part time regularly at St. Lawrence University in Art History and the First Year Program. She studied classical ballet for twelve years, and violin, which she still plays, no doubt to the occasional annoyance of her neighbors. Marianna Stout – Member at Large B.S., Psychology & Education, Syracuse University; M.S. Education, SUNY New Paltz; Masters Certificate Information Technology Project Management, George Washington University. LWV Westchester ILO: Voter Service 2008-2013; Co-President 2010-2011. LWV of New Castle: Budget Committee 2008. LWV Albany: Chairperson, Women and the Law Study 1977-1980; Voter Service 1977-1978; Speakers Bureau 1977-1980; Poll Reporter 1977- 1985. Currently: Consultant, USAID Judicial Reform Implementation Project, Macedonia; Court Management Information System, Country of Georgia. “League Leaders at Work for Our Future” PRE-CONVENTION KIT 2013-2015 NOMINATING COMMITTEE Lisa Scott – Chair Lisa Scott is President of the League of Women Voters of Suffolk County (ILO), a board member of the Smithtown League and is a New York State coach for the LWVUS Membership and Leadership Development initiative. Lisa is active in developing and coordinating youth programs for the Smithtown League, webmaster for LWVSC, responsible for the LWVSC’s 28 page annual Directory of Public Officials and LWVSC and Smithtown Voter bulletins, and moderates numerous candidate debates and public forums in Nassau and Suffolk counties. Lisa has served as Executive Director of the Periodical and Book Association of America for the last twelve years, and previously worked in senior management at the Hearst Corporation for 25 years, most notably as President of an international periodical distribution company headquartered in New York. Lisa and her husband Don (retired) live in St. James, NY. Mary Lou Classen—Committee Member Mary Lou has been a League member for 35 years. During that time she served as Treasurer, Secretary and President of the Southern Saratoga chapter. In 1999, the Southern Saratoga chapter merged with Saratoga Springs chapter to become the Saratoga County League, Mary Lou served as Co-President and later Voter Service Chair. Presently, she is a Saratoga County LWV board member and on the LWVNYS Nominating Committee. She is a retired accountant from the NYS Education Department Georgia DeGregorio—Committee Member No matter how long I have been a League member, there is always something new to learn and ways to grow and new friends to make. Having been a State Board member for six years as Grassroots Director and Membership Chair as well as a National Shur Fellow for the Membership and Leadership Development program helps me to continue this adventure. I have served on our local Rochester League board and am now president. I have also been able to welcome my three daughters into the League. Besides League commitments, I enjoy membership in the Osher Lifelong Living Institute at Rochester Institute of Technology. We just finished Ulysses under the inspired guidance of a Dubliner who is a fellow member. And each week I am responsible for the services at church. In my spare time, I love to travel. . Page | 21
