Welcome to AALPS North AALPS North provides person-centred programmes of integrated care, life skills development and therapy services for young people with autistic spectrum disorders, learning difficulties/associated complex needs and challenging behaviours. AALPS North is a well-established, CQCregistered transitions service for young adults aged 16+, with placements available for up to 52 weeks per year. Person-centred development programmes enable the young people at AALPS North to successfully transition to supported or independent living within appropriate timeframes, either along the Options Group Pathway or externally. Options Group: AALPS North Our aim Located in an idyllic rural setting close to Scunthorpe, AALPS North comprises two campuses – Roxby and Thorpe. AALPS North has been providing person-centred and outcomesfocussed support to young people with ASD and complex needs for more than a decade. AALPS North benefits from extensive facilities and a highly experienced staff team who focus on developing strategies that help young people with complex needs to make sense of and engage with the world around them. We aim to make the sometimes difficult transition from childhood to adulthood both fulfilling and rewarding. Being committed to the personalisation agenda and following our own person-centred planning approach, each young person has an individually tailored personal development programme. These programmes ensure that measurable progress is made in the areas of life, social and communication skills development, self perception and awareness and increasing independence. We provide: • individually tailored programmes that integrate care, education and therapy • person-centred development programmes that align with the government’s Autism Strategy • planned and structured transitions from childhood to adulthood • specially designed, homely living environments based across two sites • supported integration into community life and employment opportunities • a focus on developing each young person’s individual potential for independence • planned respite services
Facilities and accommodation AALPS North is comprised of two campuses, Roxby and Thorpe, which offer specially designed, homely residential accommodation that caters for young people with a wide variety of needs. From self-contained flats to single en-suite bedrooms with communal living areas, there is both separate and mixed accommodation available offering varying degrees of support that is flexible to young peoples’ needs. AALPS North offers a wide range of facilities at the Roxby and Thorpe campuses providing young people with the opportunity to develop their interests and skills in different environments. These include extensive gardens, including a wooded area with challenge track and adventure playground, café with fully equipped catering kitchen, sports hall and gym, small animal farm and horticultural area, pottery and woodwork studios, multi-media room, recording studio, beauty therapy salon, music room and drama room. The young people at AALPS North also have access to a fully equipped IT suite, library, multi-sensory room and hydrotherapy facilities. Learning There are a number of opportunities for ongoing learning at AALPS North. In addition to the development of important life skills, young people are supported to study for AQA Entry Level Certificates and nationally accredited courses such as ASDAN. Young people are supported to access further education courses at local community colleges where appropriate. AALPS North also provides workshops on developing social and communication skills using Drama and Music, which are then linked to practical sessions in the local community. Support to identify and access practical work related learning opportunities and employment is also provided. Whatever the individual goal, AALPS North provides learning environments that are: • predictable, structured and calm • low arousal and designed to encourage concentration and effective communication • positive and proactive to enhance confidence and emotional wellbeing making a difference
