BOARD OF EQUALIZATION
NOTICE OF HEARINGS
The Powhatan County Board of Equalization
will hold hearings pursuant to Section 58.1-
3378 of the Code of Virginia – 1950, as
amended, for the purpose of equalizing real
estate assessments and for hearing complaints of
alleged irregularities due to lack of uniformity or
errors in acreage. Upon hearing such complaints,
either oral or written, the Board will give consideration
AND INCREASE, DECREASE, OR
AFFIRM such real estate assessments. Before a
change is granted, the taxpayer, or his agent,
must overcome a clear presumption in favor
of the assessment. The taxpayer or agent must
provide substantial evidence that the property
is not uniform with other similar properties or
prove that the property is assessed in excess of its
fair market value.
Appointments to meet with the Board may be
scheduled by calling 598-5799, Monday through
Thursday, between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
The Board of Equalization’s hearings will be
held in June, 2010, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00
p.m. at the Powhatan County Administration
Building, 3834 Old Buckingham Road, Powhatan,
VA 23139.

NOTICE is hereby given pursuant to Section 15.2-
2225 and Section 15.2-2204 of the Code of Virginia
(1950), as amended, that the Powhatan County Board
of Supervisors shall hold a public hearing on Monday,
June 28, 2010 at 7:00 PM in the Powhatan High School
Auditorium (1800 Judes Ferry Road) for the purpose
of considering adoption of the proposed 2010 Long-
Range Comprehensive Plan.
The Comprehensive Plan is general in nature and is
made with the purpose of guiding and accomplishing
a coordinated, adjusted and harmonious development
of the territory within Powhatan County which will,
in accordance with present and probable future needs
and resources, best promote the health, safety, morals,
order, convenience, prosperity and general welfare
of its inhabitants, including the elderly and persons
with disabilities. The amended Comprehensive Plan
provides for the physical development of the territory
within Powhatan County, Virginia, pursuant to the
provisions of Sections 15.2-2223, et seq., of the Code
of Virginia (1950), as amended.
A complete copy of the full text of the proposed 2010
Long-Range Comprehensive Plan may be reviewed and
inspected at the Department of Planning and Community
Development, located in the County Administration
Building (3834 Old Buckingham Road), between
the hours of 8:30 AM and 5:00 PM of each business
day. An electronic version may be downloaded from

Notice is hereby given that the Economic
Development Authority of the County of
Powhatan, Virginia (the "Authority"),
whose address is 3834 Old Buckingham
Road, Powhatan, Virginia 23139, and the
Board of Supervisors of the County of Powhatan,
Virginia (the "County"), whose address
is 3834 Old Buckingham Road, Powhatan,
Virginia 23139, will each hold a public
hearing on the proposed issuance by
the Authority of its revenue bonds in the
maximum principal amount of $5,750,000
(the "Bonds") for purposes of assisting the
County in financing the costs related to
the acquisition, construction and equipping
of the new approximately 15,256
square foot Huguenot Public Safety Building
also known as the Huguenot Volunteer
Fire Department and Public Safety Building
(the "Public Safety Building") to be located
at 1959 Urbine Road, Powhatan, Virginia
23139. The Public Safety Building
will be owned by the County, and used by
both the County and the Huguenot Volunteer
Fire Department Inc., an entity organized
under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal
Revenue Code of 1986, as amended.
The issuance of the Bonds will not constitute
a debt or pledge of the faith and credit
of the Commonwealth of Virginia or the
County, and neither the faith and credit
nor the taxing power of the Common -
wealth of Virginia or any political subdivision
thereof will be pledged to the payment
of the Bonds.
The Authority will hold its public hearing,
which may be continued or adjourned, at
3:00 p.m ., or as soon thereafter as the mat -
ter may be heard, on Monday, July 12,
2010, before the Authority, in the large conference
room in the County Library at 2270
Mann Road, Powhatan, Virginia 23139.
Any person interested in the proposed financing
or the location or nature of the
Public Safety Building may appear at the
hearing and present his or her views.
The County will hold its public hearing,
which may be continued or adjourned, at
7:00 p.m. , or as soon thereafter as the mat -
