Look To The Mount Summer 2012 A team of 18 bowlers from Mount St. Joseph competed in the Special Olympics Illinois Northeastern Area 13 Bowling Tournament held at the Brunswick Zone in Lake Zurich on Sunday, June 4 th . This Bowling Singles Competition included Special Olympians from a number of different agencies. The athletes competed in various divisions depending on their pre-tournament averages. Team Mount St. Joseph was represented and competed in nine divisions. After a fun filled morning of bowling three games, the Mount St. Joseph Olympians were awarded medals and ribbons! Congratulations to all our Special Olympians who took part and thank you to all the volunteers and sponsors who helped make the day such a special event. Look To The Mount Summer 2012 Welcome, Sr. Marcella Ferrari This July, the Mount St. Joseph Community welcomed the arrival of Sr. Marcella Ferrari. Originally from Italy, Sr. Marcella joins us from St. Mary of Providence in Chicago, where she worked for 38 years as seamstress for the entire North American Province. Here at the Mount, Sr. Marcella continues to sew habits for the Sisters. You can find her busy at work in her workshop located at St. Al’s residence. Sister Marcella loves to “keep busy.” When she is not attending to her seamstress duties, she is at work using her talents sewing purses, quilting and knitting blankets, and beading beautiful Rosaries. It is wonderful to have Sr. Marcella as part of the Mount St. Joseph Community. On behalf of the Sisters, staff, residents and their families we welcome her and wish her continued success in all her creative endeavors. Welcome New Residents - State Celebrations On June 30 th , ladies from Marcellina and Guanella residences celebrated the first “state themed” celebration. Based on previous experience, Sister Esther suggested it might be great fun for the ladies to have monthly parties based on a theme from each state. Members of the Mount St. Joseph Association agreed and put the idea into action, starting with the state of Indiana and an “Indy Race Car Event.” For the event, the Association members decorated the gym with race car themed decorations. There, the ladies enjoyed a Culver’s lunch, making Indy themed crafts and racing their own “Shake and Go Mattel Cars.” The ladies had great fun shaking their cars to make them go and then releasing them to race across the finish line. Everyone received prizes! This event will be repeated for the other residences. And more state themed events, such as Tennessee, are planned.
