The “Eighties” Ladies of the DT Center
If you stop by Maria Trujillo’s DT classroom early in the morning, you will find a group of ladies gathered
around a table working companionably on some fun activity. What is remarkable about this group is how well
they know and enjoy each other and how proudly they share their ages—all of which are well into their
eighties!
Residents (pictured left to right) Mary Lou Bachman, Hilde Runtz, Cecelia St. Pierre, Alverna Ricke and
Teresa Breitenbeck were delighted to talk about their upcoming birthdays and share a little about themselves:
Hilde is 87 and she is looking forward to turning 88 this December 26 th . Hilde likes to read and enjoys playing
Bingo and listening to music tapes. She also likes to color and play cards with Cecelia.
Alverna is 86 and enjoys reading and coloring. She also likes working on crafts; she especially enjoys making
beaded jewelry. Alverna shares that she likes all her teachers in the DT Center.
Teresa is 84 and wants everyone to know that she is happy, and that her favorite things are music and dancing.
Teresa is especially fond of jewelry—especially pieces that sparkle. Teresa enjoys watching TV and reading
books.
Cecelia is 86 and loves to read books. She enjoys poetry, and especially enjoys writing her own poems.
Cecelia also enjoys playing cards with Hilde.
Mary Lou is 82 and loves to do a puzzle every day. She also likes to read and enjoys singing. Mary Lou loves
coming to the DT Center and looks forward to living in the new Sacred Heart residence.
It was great fun visiting with this special group of women who serve as great reminders of the importance of
staying young at heart!
