Montana Western / <strong>Helena</strong> College<br />
<strong>BS</strong> Secondary Educ<strong>at</strong>ion Degree - <strong>Industrial</strong> <strong>Tech</strong>nology Major<br />
<strong>The</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Montana Western (Dillon, MT) and <strong>The</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Montana <strong>Helena</strong> College (<strong>Helena</strong>, MT) are<br />
collabor<strong>at</strong>ing to <strong>of</strong>fer a Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Science degree in secondary educ<strong>at</strong>ion with a major in <strong>Industrial</strong> <strong>Tech</strong>nology on the<br />
<strong>Helena</strong> College campus in <strong>Helena</strong>. Individuals in <strong>Helena</strong> and the surrounding communities can take classes through both<br />
institutions to complete their educ<strong>at</strong>ional goal.<br />
Students pursuing Montana Western’s IT bachelor’s degree in secondary educ<strong>at</strong>ion will take classes from both<br />
institutions; some individuals may want to earn an associ<strong>at</strong>e degree or certific<strong>at</strong>e in a rel<strong>at</strong>ed technical area (from <strong>Helena</strong><br />
College) while completing requirements for the <strong>BS</strong> degree. <strong>Helena</strong> College will <strong>of</strong>fer general educ<strong>at</strong>ion courses and some<br />
technical course requirements. Montana Western will <strong>of</strong>fer industrial technology and pr<strong>of</strong>essional secondary educ<strong>at</strong>ion<br />
coursework.<br />
ADMISSION<br />
Students wishing to enroll in this program must be admitted to Montana Western.<br />
New/Prospective Student<br />
Submit the following inform<strong>at</strong>ion to the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Montana Western.<br />
Complete a general/uniform applic<strong>at</strong>ion for admission<br />
Submit ALL <strong>of</strong>ficial* transcript(s) from previously <strong>at</strong>tended colleges and universities<br />
Submit pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> immunity against measles and rubella (two immuniz<strong>at</strong>ions required, <strong>at</strong> least one month<br />
apart)<br />
Submit $30 applic<strong>at</strong>ion fee (waived if student has previously <strong>at</strong>tended a unit <strong>of</strong> <strong>The</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Montana)<br />
Current Student - If already <strong>at</strong>tending <strong>Helena</strong> College, submit a Request for Transmittal <strong>of</strong> Applic<strong>at</strong>ion M<strong>at</strong>erials Form<br />
(http://mus.edu/borpol/bor300/301.5.4_Request_form.pdf) to the Registrar’s <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>at</strong> <strong>Helena</strong> College. Contact the<br />
Montana Western admissions staff to determine if supplemental paper work is needed to transfer your file.<br />
Former Student - Students who stop-out (have been out <strong>of</strong> school for one semester or more) must re-apply before they<br />
can continue in the program. <strong>The</strong>se individuals must complete the applic<strong>at</strong>ion for readmission.<br />
* Official transcripts are those sent directly from the previous college(s) to the Admissions Office.<br />
ADVISING<br />
Harold Kelly, Montana Western <strong>Industrial</strong> <strong>Tech</strong>nology program advisor in <strong>Helena</strong>, will advise all students in the<br />
Secondary Educ<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>Industrial</strong> <strong>Tech</strong>nology program.<br />
REGISTRATION<br />
Students will follow the registr<strong>at</strong>ion procedures specific to each school (outlined below).<br />
Registr<strong>at</strong>ion for Montana Western Courses<br />
Students should contact Harold Kelly, Montana Western IT program advisor in <strong>Helena</strong>, to register for classes <strong>of</strong>fered by<br />
Western or contact the Registrar’s <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>at</strong> Montana Western (see contact inform<strong>at</strong>ion below).<br />
Registr<strong>at</strong>ion for the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Montana – <strong>Helena</strong> College <strong>of</strong> <strong>Tech</strong>nology<br />
Students should contact enrollment services and will register using the non-degree student applic<strong>at</strong>ion. Non-degree<br />
students <strong>at</strong> <strong>Helena</strong> College are limited to taking a maximum <strong>of</strong> six credits each semester; however, Montana Western IT<br />
<strong>Tech</strong>nology students will be able register for <strong>Helena</strong> courses in excess <strong>of</strong> 6 semester credits as necessary, subject to<br />
approval from the Registrar.<br />
Withdrawals<br />
Students must follow Montana Western and <strong>Helena</strong> College’s published procedures for withdrawal from individual<br />
classes or complete withdrawal from college. Refunds <strong>of</strong> tuition as a result <strong>of</strong> dropping courses or a complete withdrawal<br />
are subject to specific policies and timeframes and may impact a student’s financial aid st<strong>at</strong>us. Students should contact<br />
the Registrar and Financial Aid Offices <strong>at</strong> the appropri<strong>at</strong>e institutions for more inform<strong>at</strong>ion on policies and procedures<br />
with regard to dropping courses, complete withdrawals and tuition refunds as well as impacts to student financial aid.

Students can review final grades etc, via the Internet. Listed below are the respective online student inform<strong>at</strong>ion systems<br />
for both Montana Western and <strong>Helena</strong> College. Instructions for use <strong>of</strong> these systems are available <strong>at</strong> the applicable web<br />
site.<br />
<strong>Helena</strong> College students can access their accounts via My <strong>UM</strong>H through www.umhelena.edu.<br />
Montana Western students can access their accounts via DAWGS through<br />

TUITION/FEE PAYMENT<br />
Students are responsible for making all necessary arrangements for fee payment PRIOR to enrolling in classes.<br />
Non – Financial Aid Students will be required to make fee payment arrangements with both Montana Western, (ten days<br />
prior to the start <strong>of</strong> classes) and <strong>Helena</strong> College. Contact the Billing/Fee Payment contact person <strong>at</strong> both institutions to<br />
make arrangements.<br />
Financial Aid Students must contact the Financial Aid <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>at</strong> Montana Western to determine financial aid st<strong>at</strong>us.<br />
Students who complete the Financial Aid processes on time will have their funds credited to their accounts <strong>at</strong> both<br />
Montana Western and <strong>Helena</strong> College during fee payment d<strong>at</strong>es. Students should contact the Billing/Fee Payment contact<br />
person <strong>at</strong> both institutions to pay any remaining balance.<br />
DUAL/SIMULTANEOUS ENROLLMENT<br />
If students are <strong>at</strong>tending both colleges simultaneously, they should complete and submit the “Montana <strong>University</strong> System,<br />
Request for Refund <strong>of</strong> Excess Fees Paid Because <strong>of</strong> Simultaneous Attendance <strong>at</strong> Two Campuses <strong>of</strong> the Montana<br />
<strong>University</strong> System” (Simultaneous Enrollment) form. <strong>The</strong>y should submit this form to the Registrar's <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>at</strong> <strong>Helena</strong><br />
College.<br />
FINANCIAL AID<br />
Students wishing to receive financial assistance must contact the financial aid <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong> their “home” institution (school <strong>at</strong><br />
which they plan to earn their next degree) (see contact inform<strong>at</strong>ion below) to discuss the specifics <strong>of</strong> their enrollment and<br />
financial aid options. Students who are simultaneously enrolled should also complete the “Consortium Agreement” form<br />
and submit it to the Financial Aid <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>at</strong> their “home” institution.<br />
