as winners in the entrees and
breads category. Serving as
judge was Cinda Hathaway
who had to taste a few of the
dishes several times to come
up with the winners.
ALASKAN
FISHERMAN'S STEW «

fish, fresh or frozen
1'2 cups sliced celery •.
l 2 v. diopped onion .
1 clove garlic, minced
'i c. buner or margarine
i can (28 oz.) tomatoes, undrained

2 Tsp. salt
l can (8oz.) tomato sauce
•u-Tsp. paprika -..
4 Tsp. chili powder .
') Tsp. pepper
l pkgs. (7oz) spaghetti, uncooked
. 2 cups boiling water
Thaw frozen fish, cut into 1 "
inch chunks. Cook celery,
Steve Gabriel-, who was
selected as a finalist in all
three divisions and who was a
winner in two of the three,
took the $50 first prize for his
' Alaskan fisherman's stew;.
This unusual dish combines
fish, vegetables and a combination
of spices with
spaghetti to produce a very
onion and garlic in butter or
margarine in large pot until
tender. Add tomatoes, tomato
sauce and seasonings. Bring
lo^simmer; cover and cook
slowly 15 to 20 minutes. Add
uncooked spaghetti and
builing water; mix, cover and
cook slowly about 10 minutes.
Add fish, cover and cook
slowly about 10 minutes or
unril fish flakes easily when
iested with a fork.
Makes 6 servings.
Serve with grated parmesan
cheese, and accompanied
by salad, warm
bread, • and your favorite
white wine..,

his second prize of the evening, $50 for his Alaskan fisherman's stew
which was awarded top prize in the entrees and breads division.

Taking second prize was
Claudia Buchingham with her
Bucky's brown bread. Mrs.
Buckingham also was a
winner last year with her
cheese squares.
Originally from Atlanta,
Ga., she has resided here
since 1972 when her late
husband retired. She is a
member of the Ocean City
Woman's Club, a volunteer
worker with the Wesley Annes
at Wesley Manor and is an
active member of the First
United Methodist Church.
Third prize of $15 was won
by Carol Bruno of 29 Sunset
PI. for her flounder in white
wine. Mrs. Bruno also is a
two-time winner having taken
a second prize last year for
her chicken salad supreme.
A summer resident here
most of her life, Mrs. Bruno
has lived here year round for
the past nine years. She is a
former second grade school
teacher and has two sons, 6year-old
Peter and 3-year-old
Jason. Her husband is a
manager for McDonald's.
The honorable mention
prize of a Hallmark cook book
went to Charlotte Uhr for her
cheese and vegetable bake.
Mrs. Uhr is originally from
Bucks County, Pa., has
summered here three years
and been a permanent
resident for the past two
years.
She is a member of the 16-34
Community Association
serving as chairman of the
annual dinner dance and a
member of the membership
committee. She also is active
at Central United Methodist
Church in Linwood.
Her husband, Bruce, is a
realtor in Philadelphia. The
•Uhrs have^five-children, a :
daughter, Cui'dy,' ~wfi lb. butter
5 large (or 6 small eggs)
2 cure flour (sifted)
1 and two-ihirds cup sugar .
1 isp. vanilla
Cream butter and sugar.
Mix in eggs one at a time. Mix
in flour, add vanilla. Place in
cold oven. Bake 1 hour and 10
minutes at 300 degrees.
