1. Welcome and Introductions<br />

Andrew Miner, Principal Planner, welcomed and thanked community members for<br />

attending the meeting.<br />

Miner introduced <strong>City</strong> staff:<br />

o Hanson Hom, Director <strong>of</strong> Community Development<br />

o Rebecca Moon, Assistant <strong>City</strong> Attorney<br />

o Andy Laveroni, Department <strong>of</strong> Public Safety<br />

o Patricia Lord, Senior Management Analyst<br />

Miner described the purpose <strong>of</strong> the meeting, explained the history <strong>of</strong> this study and to<br />

the steps forward to <strong>City</strong> Council.<br />

2. Public Input<br />

There were many long-time <strong>Sunnyvale</strong> residents as well as residents and workers<br />

from nearby and adjacent cities interested in the study. The following is a summary <strong>of</strong><br />

comments made during the public input and discussion period facilitated by the<br />

Principal Planner:<br />

o Concern with unoccupied commercial space and limiting commerce;<br />

o U.S. firearms are a symbol <strong>of</strong> freedom;<br />

o Any permits create additional overhead costs;<br />

o Why focus on gun sales to regulate?<br />

o Glad to see U.S. firearms in the <strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Sunnyvale</strong>;<br />

o Propose a two-tier permit: Planning and Public Safety;<br />

o More concern with the Brass Rail. Misplaced concern;<br />

o What could be impact on new businesses?<br />

o Want statistics from Public Safety on claims about crime;<br />

o What are land use regulations for home occupation businesses?<br />

o Gun stores are a resource for regulation information; provides community<br />

resource;<br />
