<strong>SFCC</strong> <strong>Accomplishments</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Steve</strong> <strong>Lodle</strong><br />
<strong>Selected</strong> by the Florida Communication Association as Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> the year as the best<br />
teacher in Florida for Speech and Communication at all levels including universities.<br />
President <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Santa</strong> <strong>Fe</strong> Community <strong>College</strong> Senate – designed and maintained the<br />
Senate’s first web site.<br />
Was President <strong>of</strong> the Faculty Association that preceded the formation <strong>of</strong> the <strong>College</strong><br />
Senate.<br />
Founded the statewide Community <strong>College</strong> Faculty Coalition which allowed Senate<br />
Presidents from around the state to meet and communicate with each other. Was the<br />
founding President <strong>of</strong> the Community <strong>College</strong> Faculty Coalition. Designed and<br />
maintained the coalition’s web site – ccfaculty.com<br />
Made multiple presentations before the State Board <strong>of</strong> Community <strong>College</strong>s<br />
– was on their permanent agenda for monthly meetings – did this at the personal<br />
invitation <strong>of</strong> the Chancellor <strong>of</strong> Florida community colleges’ David Armstrong<br />
Made a presentation before the Council <strong>of</strong> Presidents <strong>of</strong> Florida Community <strong>College</strong>s on<br />
the topic <strong>of</strong> shared governance.<br />
Was an <strong>of</strong>ficer <strong>of</strong> the Florida Association <strong>of</strong> Community <strong>College</strong> (FACC) Faculty<br />
Commission.<br />
Was one <strong>of</strong> only two faculty members cited by Florida Association <strong>of</strong> Community<br />
<strong>College</strong>’s retiring CEO Harry Albertson as faculty who made a difference in the State.<br />
Originated the Phased Retirement program for faculty – got a law amended in the Florida<br />
Legislature to allow this to occur.<br />
Originated the Credit Banking program at <strong>Santa</strong> <strong>Fe</strong>.<br />
Served as chair <strong>of</strong> the <strong>SFCC</strong> Salary and Benefits Committee.<br />
Served as chair <strong>of</strong> the Alternative Contracts committee that ultimately resulted in a twoterm<br />
contract at <strong>Santa</strong> <strong>Fe</strong>.<br />
Twice selected as <strong>SFCC</strong>’s Quarterly Employee <strong>of</strong> the year.<br />
Chair <strong>of</strong> Friends <strong>of</strong> <strong>Santa</strong> <strong>Fe</strong> – an effort to promote <strong>Santa</strong> <strong>Fe</strong> in the community.<br />
Chair <strong>of</strong> Legislative Action Committee for <strong>Santa</strong> <strong>Fe</strong>.<br />
<strong>Selected</strong> as Honorable mention for the <strong>SFCC</strong> Robertson medallion for service to the
college.<br />
Was co-chair <strong>of</strong> the <strong>SFCC</strong> United Way drive and raised over $65,000 on our campus.<br />
Was chair <strong>of</strong> the Shared Governance committee that resulted in a new policy being<br />
adopted by the <strong>SFCC</strong> Board <strong>of</strong> Trustees – this allowed greater sharing in decisionmaking<br />
at <strong>Santa</strong> <strong>Fe</strong>. This occurred after the departure <strong>of</strong> Academic VP Nancy Baily.<br />
Was the Unit Coordinator for my faculty area for many years.<br />
Wrote my own textbook “Talking to People” used by thousands <strong>of</strong> students over the<br />
years. Developed and maintained the <strong>SFCC</strong> speech web site – santafespeech.com Some<br />
<strong>of</strong> the links come up in the Top 5 in a Google search.<br />
Was a Master Presenter on teaching research skills and on shared governance at the<br />
National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) International<br />
Conference on Teaching and Leadership Excellence at the University <strong>of</strong> Texas.<br />
Taught and developed the first Interpersonal Communication course at <strong>Santa</strong> <strong>Fe</strong> and<br />
wrote a text book – “Interacting with People.<br />
Taught journalism and mass media at <strong>Santa</strong> <strong>Fe</strong> for ten years.<br />
Taught and developed the first Honors Speech course at <strong>Santa</strong> <strong>Fe</strong>.<br />
Organized and chaired a special college-wide presentation on techniques <strong>of</strong> eloquence by<br />
University <strong>of</strong> Florida Distinguished Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Ronald Carpenter.<br />
Originated the <strong>SFCC</strong> Spirituality and Education committee – Chaired a special collegewide<br />
presentation with University <strong>of</strong> Colorado Distinguished Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Jean Weston, Dr.<br />
Allen Neims, former dean <strong>of</strong> the University <strong>of</strong> Florida’s <strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong> Medicine and Lou<br />
Ritz, an associate pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Neuroscience at UF’s McKnight Brain Institute.<br />
Chaired two hiring committees that selected the only speech faculty hired for <strong>Santa</strong> <strong>Fe</strong> in<br />
the past 35 years.<br />
Had 10 letters published in the Gainesville Sun on topics promoting the community<br />
college system.
