Selected by the Florida Communication Association as Professor of the year as the best
teacher in Florida for Speech and Communication at all levels including universities.
President of the Santa Fe Community College Senate – designed and maintained the
Senate’s first web site.
Was President of the Faculty Association that preceded the formation of the College
Senate.
Founded the statewide Community College Faculty Coalition which allowed Senate
Presidents from around the state to meet and communicate with each other. Was the
founding President of the Community College Faculty Coalition. Designed and
maintained the coalition’s web site – ccfaculty.com
Made multiple presentations before the State Board of Community Colleges
– was on their permanent agenda for monthly meetings – did this at the personal
invitation of the Chancellor of Florida community colleges’ David Armstrong
Made a presentation before the Council of Presidents of Florida Community Colleges on
the topic of shared governance.
Was an officer of the Florida Association of Community College (FACC) Faculty
Commission.
Was one of only two faculty members cited by Florida Association of Community
College’s retiring CEO Harry Albertson as faculty who made a difference in the State.
Originated the Phased Retirement program for faculty – got a law amended in the Florida
Legislature to allow this to occur.
Originated the Credit Banking program at Santa Fe.
Served as chair of the SFCC Salary and Benefits Committee.
Served as chair of the Alternative Contracts committee that ultimately resulted in a twoterm
contract at Santa Fe.
Twice selected as SFCC’s Quarterly Employee of the year.
Chair of Friends of Santa Fe – an effort to promote Santa Fe in the community.
Chair of Legislative Action Committee for Santa Fe.
Selected as Honorable mention for the SFCC Robertson medallion for service to the

college.
Was co-chair of the SFCC United Way drive and raised over $65,000 on our campus.
Was chair of the Shared Governance committee that resulted in a new policy being
adopted by the SFCC Board of Trustees – this allowed greater sharing in decisionmaking
at Santa Fe. This occurred after the departure of Academic VP Nancy Baily.
Was the Unit Coordinator for my faculty area for many years.
Wrote my own textbook “Talking to People” used by thousands of students over the
years. Developed and maintained the SFCC speech web site – santafespeech.com Some
of the links come up in the Top 5 in a Google search.
Was a Master Presenter on teaching research skills and on shared governance at the
National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) International
Conference on Teaching and Leadership Excellence at the University of Texas.
Taught and developed the first Interpersonal Communication course at Santa Fe and
wrote a text book – “Interacting with People.
Taught journalism and mass media at Santa Fe for ten years.
Taught and developed the first Honors Speech course at Santa Fe.
Organized and chaired a special college-wide presentation on techniques of eloquence by
University of Florida Distinguished Professor Ronald Carpenter.
Originated the SFCC Spirituality and Education committee – Chaired a special collegewide
presentation with University of Colorado Distinguished Professor Jean Weston, Dr.
Allen Neims, former dean of the University of Florida’s College of Medicine and Lou
Ritz, an associate professor of Neuroscience at UF’s McKnight Brain Institute.
Chaired two hiring committees that selected the only speech faculty hired for Santa Fe in
the past 35 years.
Had 10 letters published in the Gainesville Sun on topics promoting the community
college system.
