Water Supply Plant and Machinery Depreciation Furxj
4.7.7 Section 49 of the Water Act 1958 requires the written sanction of the
Minister for the withdrawal of moneys fron the Fund. During the year
$206 260 was withdrawn from the Fund for the purchase of replacement
motor vehicles wittout the approval of the Minister.
Cardinia Fluoridation Plant
4.7.8 An agreement was entered into tetween the Coranission and the Melbourne
and Metropolitan Board of Works for the Board to construct a "crossconnection"
tetween the Board's main and the Commission's main,
downstream of the Board's Cardinia fluoridation plant in order to
supply fluoridated water directly into the Commission's main. The
Commission's share of the cost of the works was $360 000.
4.7.9 Section 36A of the Water Act 1958 empowers the Cormission to enter
into such an agreement subject to the approval of the Governor in
Council. Audit erxjuiries disclosed that Governor in Council approval
was not obtained.
Conclusion
4.7.10 ^art from the qualification, the unresolved matterrs referred to in
the Status Report and the above matters, the results of the audit
examination proved satisfactory.
