BACKGROUND INFORMATION
1.1 FORMAT OF REPORTS TO PARLIAMENT
1.1.1 I intend to present to Parlianent 4 reports in respect of 1983-84, as
indicated below, together with special reports on otJier matters as the
occasion demands.
1.1.2 The First Report, tabled on 18 Septanber 1984,accompanied the
Treasurer's Statanent for the year ended 30 June 1984 arx^ contained my
report on that Statanent, as required by Section 47 of the Audit Act
1958.
1.1.3 This Secorxi Report contains audit observations and recommendations
arising out of the audits of departnnents and public bodies declared in
accordance with the Annual Reporting Act 1983 and in respect of which
an audit opinion was provided prior to 30 Septanber 1984. It also
includes audit observations and recotimerKlations on a number of other
statutory bodies which have not been declared under the above Act but
which I am required ty law to audit.
1.1.4 The Third Report, which will be forwarded to Parliament towards the
end of 1984, will cover the operations of other statutory bodies which
I am required by law to audit, as well as reports on any departments
in respect of which an audit report had not been issued prior to 30
September 1984.
1.1.5 The Fourth Report, which will be presented later this financial year,
will cover those agencies not included in my second or third reports
because of:
delays in the preparation of financial statanents,
balance dates other than 30 June, or
incanplete audits.
1.1.6 A separate report on the operations and audited financial statanents
of the Office of the Auditor-General was transmitted to the Pranier on
26 September 1984 for presentation to Parliament in accordance with
the Annual Reporting Act 1983.
1.2 ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
1.2.1 I wish to record my sincere appreciation of the assistance throughout
the past year of the Assistant Auditor-General and all other members
of the staff of the Office of the Auditor-General and give recognition
to their professional competence and dedication to the work of the
Office.
1.2.2 I also wish to acknowledge the assistance of the Government Printer in
the preparation of this report.
