Multi Fuel Design
A reverse flame steel boiler, the SR-plus Combination is available with a range
of matched burners, suitable for firing with oil, gas or dual fuel burners.
The stainless steel calorifier used in the construction can be either CT-plus or
Modul-plus. Both types consist of a high grade stainless steel inner vessel/s
with a 'rippled' wall, surrounded by a mild steel primarily water jacket. The CTtype
has one single cylinder whereas the Modul type is designed with banks of
horizontal stainless steel cylinders which can be stacked up three high.
Cylinders are wrapped in a metallic backed insulation blanket and are cased
with insulation lined steel panels, as in the boiler.
Efficiency
For DHW generation the Hoval patented rippled heat transfer surface:-
• gives rapid regeneration of secondary water temperatures even after complete
draw off.
• provides an extended heat transfer surface within the compact cylinder.
• creates turbulence on the primary water side to enhance heat transfer.
• reduces scale adherence to the cylinder wall by the natural flexing arising
from the temperature variations in the cylinder.
Temperature Control
CIBSE and Department of Health codes of practice recommend that DHW be
stored at a minimum of 60°C to prevent the risk of legionella bacteria contamination.
The control panel contains a thermostat which allows for DHW temperature
adjustment. In instances where DHW is required at 60°C the supply
can be taken direct from the calorifier. For washing and showering duties which
require a lower temperature, external blending is required. The Hoval Irgumat
blending valve is recommended.
Maintenance
The corrosion resistant stainless steel material of the calorifiers requires only
minimal inspection and cleaning. Scale formation is limited by the ripple design
and the expansion and contraction of the unit means that it is largely self
descaling.
The units can be manually or chemically cleaned throughout the relevant inspection
covers. It is recommended that after prolonged periods of service the
secondary cylinders are given a thorough flushing.
Standard models make use of the system valving for drain down access to the
primary pump. Isolating valves can be fitted to the pump as an optional extra.
