The hotel accommodations are first class, and while many<br />
of the large, and most of the small, houses are only open<br />
during the summer, at all times the visitor may find good<br />
rooms and board at rkasonable prices.<br />
Society here is represented by many of its best people.<br />
The evenings are made merry with hops and social gatherings,<br />
and delightful walks among the myriad attractions this plac,e<br />
affords.<br />
There are three churches here-the Congregational, Epis-<br />
copal, and a Catholic-all of which have new and comfortable<br />
edifices, substantial and growing congregations.<br />
There are two railroads to Manitou-the Colorado Mid-<br />
land and the Denver and Rio Grande-and trains run to and<br />
from here every few hours. It is also connected with other<br />
places by a complete telegraph and telephone system.<br />
Once domiciled in Manitou, the way to enjoy it to the<br />
utmost is in the saddle. The riding horses are excellent.<br />
Comfortable saddles for ladies and well trained horses are,<br />
furnished by all the livery stables.<br />
There are more points of interest near Manitou Springs<br />
than any other watering place in the world. Among the<br />
places which should be visited by all who come to this local-<br />
ity are :<br />
Cheyenne Mountain, over the new carriage road leading<br />
through beautiful mountain scenery to Beaver Creek, and by<br />
the Seven Lakes to the summit of Pike's <strong>Peak</strong>.<br />
South Cheyenne Canon to the Seven Falls, and North<br />
Cheyenne Canon; Ute Pass and the Rainbow Falls; Iron<br />

Springs in Engleman's Canon ; Manitou Grand Cayerns, Ute<br />
Pass ; Manitou Canon and the Grotto therein ; summit of Pike's<br />
<strong>Peak</strong>, either by Bear or Ruxton Creeks ; Williams' Canon and<br />
Cave of the Winds ; Manitou Park in the mountains ; Garden<br />
of the Gods; Glen Eyre; Monument Park ; Blair Athol;<br />
Crystal Park. In the upper part of the Ute Pass a cluster of<br />
charming summer resorts have been established, easily acces-<br />
sible from Manitou for a day's picnicing either by rail or<br />
wagon road. These include Cascade, Ute Park, Green Moun-<br />
tain Falls, and Woodland Park. From Cascade a wagon road<br />
leads to the summit of Pike's <strong>Peak</strong>.<br />
The Pike's <strong>Peak</strong> Railway, whose lower terminus is in<br />
Manitou, is one of the wonders of the modern world. It is a<br />
cog-wheel road, on the Abt system, nine miles in length. In<br />
that distance it climbs 7,700 feet, with a maximum grade of<br />
twenty-five per cent.<br />
In addition to this there are many well known localities,<br />
scores of canons, caves, water-falls and charming nooks, which<br />
the sojourner for health or pleasure can seek out for himself.
