Tax Refund Run to Your Porsche Dealer
April 14, 2007
You have your tax refund, you are itching to spend it and we have provided the way
to do it. Those of you without tax refunds and with no after tax money left are also
welcome to come. Porsche Santa Barbara has consented to host a tech session,
buying spree and general get together at their dealership in Santa Barbara on Saturday,
April 14th. They are trying to repair the damage to customers in our area
done by previous(Cutter) owners. They will have 2 mechanics, cars on the racks, all
the latest Porsche models and lots of sales people to take orders. The Porsche boutique
store and parts department will also be open with a 10% discount on parts for
all Porsche club members(Card required).
Drinks and light snacks will also be provided. All this will happen from 10am until
1pm, or you close the deal. That should leave plenty of time for you to make a late
lunch at your favorite Santa Barbara dining spot. We meet at 8am in the parking lot
for the Prime Outlet Mall (333 Five Cities Dr) of Pismo Beach, just off the 101, at the
5 cities drive exit. If you live south, just meet us at the Porsche Santa Barbara at
What is Drivers Education and why is it useful you may ask?
Driver Education is intended to afford participants the opportunity to develop car control skills in an organized manner and in a controlled
and safe environment. The plan is for participants to accomplish this while they have a good time and learn from their experience.
The safety of participants and their cars is the number one concern. And the reasons for Driver Education are to make each of
us who participate, more skilled and safer drivers and to provide us with the opportunity to learn about our Porsches and to experience
"driving in its purest form".
Fill out the registration form on next page and get it to Paul with your check payable to "CCCR/PCA" before May 15th
About 20 cars left Costco parking
lot on time (We met another
car at the restaurant).
Traveling 101 north to Santa Margarita,
to Hwy 58. Twisted and turned for a delightful
Porsche drive. Continued north
on River Road working our way to the
Restaurant in San Miguel.
We’d been having trouble with two
cars. One running poorly and the other
occasionally decided to stop. Both cars
got to the restaruant without incident
other than the heart fibrilations that
happen when your car keeps threatening
to quit and your not sure what to do
about it.
The meal was good, plenty and the
entertainment was lots of fun. The Restaruant
arranged Wine Tasting for our
group (special). We ate and laughed for a
couple of hours for a great time.
On the way home while Alyce and
I, Dave and Connie Betts stopped in Paso
Robles for a rootbeer float, the two cars
continued to be troublesom. The 911 made
it home. It turned out the points needed
adjusting. The 356 that was running
poorly, had apparantly stopped along 101
south about 1/2 mile from our rootbeer
floats (wish we’d known). We were told
that a passerby stopped to help, indicated
he’d worked on “those cars before”, removed
and cleaned the distributer cap,
reinstalled it and it ran fine, and got it’s
occupants home.
We’d like to thank Rick and Rhonda
Mareina (and I’m told Dave and Dalna
Mills) for the great event and wonderful
drive. Also, we’d like to thank the Restaurant
owners and staff for a FUN time.
San Miguel Run
And the rootbeer float hit the spot.
PLUGS & POINTS
SPRING IS HERE! We have already had
some amazing "tops down weather" in SLO County.
It's also the start of Formula One Racing season,
CCCR Autocross (with Corvette Club) season and
CCCR's Driver Education event in May.
April 14th our drive to Santa Barbara Auto
will be an excellent time not only enjoy the scenic
drive but to connect with our only near by "official"
Porsche dealership. We hope to have a great CCCR
turnout to enjoy the newest Porsches and their
goodie store! We will also take this opportunity to
personally thank them for being sponsors of our
Holiday Party last year.
ANY lunch suggestions in Santa Barbara? We
are planning a drive to the Botanical Gardens later
this year and need suggestions for lunch (with good
parking).
With our busy
event schedule in
place, CCCR needs
VOLUNTEERS.
Please contact
Alyce996@surfari.net
The board
voted to purchase a
new PCA banner for
use at a variety of future
events. Ours was
a bit neglected looking.
We also voted to
return to A.J. Spurs in
Pismo Beach for our
Holiday Party December
8th.
If you have
not signed up for any
competitive PCA Parade
events, please
consider volunteering
for this special experience
July 1-5, San Diego. Bob
and I signed up for a couple
of events and then decided
that it's a lot more fun if we
volunteer for some of the
"other" events. The only
problem was deciding how
to spend our time. The PCA
Parade has an amazing schedule of fun things to do.
tours, lunch, seminars.
Santa Barbara Region Presents
The 2007 Santa Barbara 1000 Charity Tour – Pre San Diego Parade
Prior to the 2006 PCA Parade in Portland, OR, the SBR presented a fun rally/tour that included two overnight
stops enroute to the Parade. Following a pre-determined rural route, entrants stopped at various super markets
along the way to purchase a minimum of two cans of food at each stop. The cash register receipts served as
check-point time slips. Support vehicles were stationed along the route to take the cans of food and make more
available space in the cars. Some 30 Porsches participated and almost 1000 pounds of food were donated to the
local PCA Region’s favorite Police Charity in Portland.
Entrants from several Zone 8 Regions participated. The route was great fun and very scenic. The evenings
spent together after each day’s run provided plenty of time for socializing and great food. For 2007, SBR is going
to do it again. The start will be Thursday night, June 28th in Solvang and proceed to the Palm Springs area
for the night of June 29th. The charity fun run will arrive at the PCA Parade in San Diego on Saturday, June
30th. Sue and I had an absolute ball on the 2006 event and are looking forward to the 2007 edition. It’s a great
way to attend Parade. Details can be found on the SBR website (www.pcasb.org) or by contacting David Stone
at (805) 389-8999.
C’mon and join in the fun for a very worthy cause.
