Drury Panther Baseball 2008
Graduate Assistant Coach Scott Nasby
Scott Nasby enters his second season as the graduate assistant coach
at Drury, where he is pursuing his Masters in Business Administration.
He is a graduate of Missouri State in 2005 where he obtained
his degree in Marketing and earned a letter in all four seasons for
the Bears. Nasby started at every infield position besides pitcher and
started in the 2003 College World Series at first base. Nasby is also
a graduate of Glendale High School here in Springfield where Mark
Stratton coached him for 3 years. Nasby has coached in Italy’s professional
league, where his squad compiled a winning season in one of
the country’s top leagues.
Volunteer Assistant Coach Curt Plotner
Curt Plotner enters his second season as the volunteer assistant coach
where he works mainly with the infielders and baserunners. He is a
graduate of Hillcrest High School where he played for current DU
assistant coach Byron Hagler. Curt graduated from William Jewell
College in 2004 while earning a degree in accounting. He was named
to the Heart of America Athletic Conference first-team in 2002, as
well as collecting all-region honors. His team set a school record for
victories in his senior season with 47, losing in the super-regional one
win shy of the NAIA World Series. Curt is currently working on his
Masters in Education. He is getting married in June to current DU
women’s basketball graduate assistant Amanda Newton.
Volunteer Assistant Coach Chuck Essary
A native of Springfield, Charlie “Chuck” Essary, has spent many years
involved in baseball. Chuck has spent the last 22 years volunteering
his time at his alma mater, Hillcrest High School, and other area
high schools. It was through this that he developed ties to Coaches
Stratton and Hagler. Both of Essary’s sons played collegiate baseball
at Labette Community College, and Chuck began working with
the baseball program there in 1989 continuing to 2000. He was
instrumental in recruiting nearly 100 players to the Labette program
in 11 seasons. He also worked as an associate scout for the Texas
Ranger organization during that time, and played a role in drafting
several Ozark area ball players to the minor league organization.
Chuck characterizes his volunteer efforts as “teaching,” with the goal
of helping the players continue in their education and rise to the next
level of their baseball career.
