Currently the members of JJAC represent all <strong>Minnesota</strong>’s eight congressional districts. They<br />
represent the following major categories: youth, courts, law enforcement, private nonprofit<br />
youth-serving agencies, public defense, prosecution, and private citizens who have<br />
acquired special knowledge relating to juveniles. They represent <strong>Minnesota</strong>’s rural,<br />
suburban and urban areas equally. They represent all major cultural and national groups<br />
who reside in <strong>Minnesota</strong>. They are a working board.<br />
JJAC meets monthly to work on its federal and state responsibilities. <strong>Committee</strong>s with<br />
specific focused items meet outside of the monthly meeting. Responsibilities of JJAC<br />
include:<br />
To develop a comprehensive Three Year Plan for juvenile justice in <strong>Minnesota</strong> as<br />
mandated by the JJDP Act.<br />
To report to the Governor and Legislature <strong>Minnesota</strong>’s compliance with the JJDP<br />
Act’s four core requirements.<br />
To advise the Governor and Legislature on recommendations for improvement of<br />
the <strong>Minnesota</strong> juvenile justice system.<br />
To review, award and monitor federal juvenile justice funds appropriated by<br />
Congress in Title II, Title V and the <strong>Juvenile</strong> Accountability Block Grant (JABG) funds.<br />
Title II provides funding for Prevention, Intervention and Aftercare programs to<br />
youth serving and community based organizations. Title V provides funding to local<br />
units of government for community delinquency prevention programs. JABG<br />
provides funding support for juvenile justice to local units of government and<br />
allocations are based on population.<br />
JJAC meets monthly in various sites around the state to become familiar with local juvenile<br />
justice issues and to allow specific communities convenient access to relating their<br />
overarching perspective on juvenile justice. In 2010 the committee visited:<br />

Dakota County Western Service Center, Apple Valley<br />
Hennepin County Home School, Minnetonka<br />
<strong>Minnesota</strong> Correctional Facility, Red Wing<br />
Life Work Planning Agency, Mankato<br />
Lakes Area Restorative <strong>Justice</strong> Program, Pequot Lakes<br />
<strong>Minnesota</strong> <strong>State</strong> Capitol, St. Paul<br />
Evergreen House, Bemidji<br />
Duluth School District, Duluth<br />
<strong>Minnesota</strong> JJAC members serve nationally as well as statewide.
