It was discovered that using an American flag on a product trade mark was against the law and the emblem was changed before the New York Motorama. The only thing really new on the 1953 Corvette was the fiberglass body. Everything else was directly off the Chevrolet parts shelf. Because of this, the first Corvette was essentially a regular 1952 Chevrolet that looked like a million dollars! The first Corvettes were actually "rolled" off the assembly line. Chevrolet was not prepared for grounding to a fiberglass body; the cars would not start.
From the Prez, It is hard to believe 2 years as your President have passed by! I would like to thank the membership and especially my board for the dedication to Corvettes of Fresno! Without all of you this club would not function. We had a very successful two years along with two great Tahoe events even this last year with the economy being what it is Tahoe 41 was a success. And again without all of you this would not have happened! But this is just the beginning, Tahoe 42 is fast approaching, we are looking for an ambitious person to chair Tahoe 42 and there are lot members willing to help out. I would like to welcome our new board, and our new fearless leader President Jon Devoe. We thought he entertained us before just wait he will do a great job! I welcome Nick DiLiddo as our 1 st vice President in charge of Activities with Nick’s experience I promise he won’t let you down. Also coming back for her second term is Valerie Merritt as our membership chairperson or 2 nd Vice President, not to mention our new Secretary Terry Cavanaugh, she has been there and done that before as well! And I want to personally thank her for that. Harry Bellow is our new Treasure with his experience as treasure along with support from Gene Fox you can be assured your club money will be well taken care of! Jim Agar is our new newsletter editor Jim brings a lot of experience and as everyone has seen a great news letter. And last but not least Al Hall as our Webmaster; I think we all know where we would be with out Al. Also as a note Roger Merritt has step up to be our new Governor for WSCC. I almost forgot I would like to thank Tina Surrondo for the excellent job she did with NCCC as governess, and would like her to know that was a rough period between Corvettes of Fresno and NCCC. But I think we made the right move, only time will tell! Just a heads up the Veterans Day parade is coming up and as usual I am sure Billie Talley will do a great job representing Corvettes of Fresno. I realize a lot of us are still working for the other guy and it is difficult when your employer doesn’t recognize Veterans Day as a holiday. But as I stated I am sure we will be well represented, thank you Billie. Also, Nick DiLiddo is planning the 2010 Ice Breaker, February 20, 2010. Where will Ice Breaker be going you might ask, where else, Monterey. Is there a better place to kick off the new Corvette season? Except of course Cayucos right Dave! What a great and delicious Ice Breaker we had in 2009! Okay folks there is a group headed north to the Family and Friends Holiday Dinner on Saturday the 5 th of December. Check with Bruce Looney if you’re interested. I guarantee you will have a great time! And on December 12, the Sherman’s and the Haney’s are sponsoring a run to a Christmas Show Melodrama in Pismo Beach. And I am sure you won’t go wrong attending their run as they are great hosts. And last but not least Corvettes of Fresno’s Annual Christmas party on Tuesday December 15, 2009. Don’t miss it and don’t forget to bring your old raffle tickets. Oh and by the way I will still be on your board as your Past President so needless to say I will not ever forget to SAVE THE WAVE! We will see ya all at the General Meeting Tuesday, November 17, 2009. And thanks again for all of your support! Sincerely you’re Prez Allen Teixeira SKYLINE DRIVE CORVETTE CLUB - CALIFORNIA CRUISIN’ On September 10th six SDC couples flew to Reno Nevada. This was the start of a 20 day road trip touring California. You see they had their Corvette’s Fed Exed to Champion Chevrolet in Reno a week earlier. Here are the highlights: The Fed Ex crew was great. They showed they really knew how to baby nice cars. The cost to go out and back was approximately $2400 per car. We encountered incredible hospitality from the Corvette Club’s. Special thanks go out to Lisa Mitchell of the Reno CC, Barbara Coe of the Lake Tahoe CC, Allen and Nancy Teixeira and Bruce from the Fresno CC, Lonnie Armstrong of the Napa Valley CC. All of these people went above and beyond the call of duty to help us out and make us feel welcome. And we can’t forget Jack Stanko from Champion Chevrolet for keeping our Corvette’s safe until we arrived. And then there were: Camel races in Virginia City, Caves in Oregon, Breathtaking ride down the California coastal highway, Lombard Street in San Francisco, The Golden Gate Bridge, Giant Redwood and Sequoia trees, Yosemite National park, 113 F in Death Valley, Route 66, Wigwam motel on rt 66, Hearst Castle, Riding through a herd of cattle, And a whole lot more. The trip ended in Phoenix where we dropped the cars off at the home of Bob Yoder and Elaine Petrich. They just happen to be good friends of the Whitmoyers. Bob and Elaine went out of their way to make us feel welcome in their home. The FedEx truck picked up the cars at their house the day after we flew back to Reading. Finally, many thanks go to Albie for his role as master planner of the trip. Every thing worked smoothly and was well thought out. Gloria also earned accolades for being a first rate navigator. Our recent trip out west was really awesome. But we were especially pleased with the overwhelming hospitality exhibited buy the 3 Corvette Clubs we encountered.
