Kym’s comment
Dear Families & Friends
Agideas Student Design Workshop
I was delighted to be able to take eight of our creative students
to the 2012 Agideas Student Design workshop last week. We
should be very proud of these students. They participated in the
workshop enthusiastically. They interacted with the professional
designers confidently, listened to their ideas and asked questions.
The students represented Gembrook in an outstanding
manner. Well done – Tess, Hollie, Kaitlin, Joel, Annabelle,
Lynton, Matt and Amelie. Their designs from the workshop will
be on display in the foyer shortly.
Education Week 2012
Education Week was a wonderful celebration
of learning at Gembrook Primary
School. Marvellous Maths Monday
was a terrific day. Students spent time
with their fantastic friends doing some
maths activities. Fantastic Friends
groups are groups of students from P-6
grades. Sessions with Fantastic Friends
provide opportunities for students to develop friendships with
students from all the learning centres. Another highlight of the
week was Family Fun Night. Thank you to all the families who
came along and joined in with the activities. Thank you to Andrea
Failla and Meg Ichikawa for organising the Japanese display
to be at our school on Wednesday for the Japanese sessions. We
were extremely privileged to host the display. This display gave
our students a little insight into the devastation of the recent
tsunami in Japan.
During the week Jenni Rowe, local ceramic artist, began her time
with us as artist in residence. All of the students, teachers and
many parents have created a small piece of sculpture that will
be put together as a whole school art project. Our students thoroughly
enjoyed their sessions with Jenni and many students remembered
working with her on the ‘Owl Project’ that we have
outside the library.
Education Week
Celebrating numbers &
Monday dress up day
PFA Movie Star Disco
The PFA disco scheduled for last Friday night has been rescheduled
to the last day of term. The disco was rescheduled due to
the power failure and weather conditions. It will be a day time
disco. This will be great fun and a wonderful celebration for the
end of term. Details will be in future newsletters.
Car parking
Please find enclosed in the newsletter details about the use of
the drop off zone and use of the carpark. In the interest of student
safety please drive and park carefully around the school.
EDEC Cross Country
Many of our students will participate in the EDEC Cross Country
on Thursday. Please send along a change of clothes as the
ground is quite wet. We welcome parents to assist and to cheer.
Woolworths Earn and Learn Program
Last year this program provided some excellent resources for
our classrooms. I would encourage families to collect the stickers
and return them to the box in the school office area. The program
concludes on the last day of term.
Enjoy the week
Thank you from Japan
On Wednesday 23 May, Gembrook Primary School played host to an amazing
exhibit. We were privileged to be the second place outside of Tokyo to see the 80
drawings and 29 photos from the tsunami affected areas of Japan. The exhibit is
called 'Thank you from Japan' and it is in response to the enormous contribution
Australia made to Japan during the 2011 earthquake and tsunami.
Our students showed an amazing capacity for compassion and had mature and insightful responses to questions
asked of them.
I would like to thank Mr Fraser and Mrs A for helping us to set up and Mr Fraser for helping us get the display to
Emerald primary school. A very special thank you goes to my dear friend Meg for her support and for helping me
during the visit from the Japanese Consulate General.
Do you know any
local growers ?
The school produce market would like to expand to include local (small time) growers to sell their
produce. If you know anyone who fits this description please ask them to contact Karen on 0407 889
331 or Ellisa on 0402 696 884 for further information. It only requires around 1.5 hrs of time to set up
and sell at the school market. There is also no cost to the grower. Parents are still encouraged to
attend the Market with any of their own produce they wish to sell—or donate produce to the
ecowarriors.
Why not get the kids involved too !
