landscapes are recognised (Carter and Bennet, 1973). Quaternary erosion cycle is<br />

represented by both erosional features and lowland deposition (Agnew and Stubbs,<br />

1972). Pleistocene to Recent deposits forms littoral plains margining the major lakes.<br />

Quaternary erosion is active along the Rift Valley escarpments and the rim may be<br />

notched by the active thrust of the new cycle. Quaternary surfaces of both erosional<br />

and depositional nature are usually of only limited extent and are confined to the floor<br />

and sides of the Rift Valley.<br />
